This is your most expensive work. How do you explain the higher pricing?

Tomi Responds:
Parts to create the 1984 Playset are expensive and difficult to come by and manufacturing each unit by hand is very time consuming. A low run of 100 units makes this one of our most exclusive products. Previous PodBrix items have commanded a high-price when resold in the collector's market so I feel this work is a safe investment from a collector standpoint.

and

A static LED backlit movie screen complete with a minifig style "Big Brother" completes the effect.

Ha ha

Who cares if there are only 200 of them. And you think a 30 cent LED brings the value up? Have you seen what other lego sets you can get for that money?

Woah...for some reason I read that as LCD instead of LED...so yeah. Pretty much a rip off.

The fact that it said it was a static image at least twice on the site should have lead you on also

Yeah, I was really confused why the LCD would have a static pictures...took me a little while. Gimme a break, I was up late. (on the plus side I have a computer that can dual boot finally...soon to be a triple boot )

The above image is also nicely light and photoshoped. It won't look as attractive sitting on ones shelf.

Who wants to fire up an LED on the shelf when a fellow Mac geek comes over?

I totally agree. Custom "art" shouldn't cost anywhere near this much. How dare this person put such a ridiculous price on anything hand-painted and assembled. I know for a fact this is exactly $1 worth of Legos! And it's not as if this "artist" "Tomi" is known for charging similarly relative prices for his previous works. I would prefer it to be mass-produced in China and shipped out to Wal-Marts around the world rather than support the "artist's" opulent lifestyle I'm sure these sales finance! This way everyone gets one for $14.99! Except the Germans, because they don't have Wal-Mart anymore. Whatever it is, I want it cheap! Don't I deserve that?

Well that's just the point isn't it. He has every right to charge whatever he wants for his loooong hard work but I don't see much value in it as a potential customer/Mac Geek.

Exactly. He has an established history of selling out of these things in a matter of minutes, sometimes even seconds. He's a respected artist and has a loyal following that will often lay out a not insignificant amount of cash for his work. Kinda similar, in a way, to Steve Jobs and Apple.

Like I said I won't buy one, but I can appreciate nearly any art for what it is. The definition of art is where most people disagree, I think.

I apriciate it also, I think it is nifty but to me no way in hell worth $200.

Just because he can sell out of 200 of them in second doesn't make it good. Look at all the other crap people buy thinking it is rare art. What was the name of that painting that was a 30 foot straight line and sold for millions.

I've seen a canvas painted NOTHING but pure black and people awe into it's beauty and spewed up a few grand.

Sometimes the artist themselves command a premium rather than the quality of the art itself. I haven't seen them personally, but could the art in those paintings be the absence of art?

I've seen instances where an artist painstakingly designs and builds a custom giagantic, canvas size brush and makes one pass. The art is in the creation rather than the end product. Of course you'd have to know how it was created in order to appreciate it at all, otherwise it looks like the artist created the entire work in 3 seconds.

The price is crazy, but I'm guessing they will sell.

You never know what will become valuable. There are thousands of people that thought comic books were worthless, or baseball cards, etc. etc.

I'm not saying I would pay $200, but there seems to be a market.

It doesn't look so great in the above image and you can guarantee it has been light and photoshoped to death.

If you think it is worth $200 bucks though go nuts.

Who the hell are you to tell someone else what is good art? Art is subjective. If you think you are the definitive critic to all great art, you are sorely mistaken. No one can define what art is good and what art isn't, except to themselves.

Just because something doesn't move you, doesn't mean it doesn't move someone else beyond description. Thats the beauty of art, its power is nearly indefinable.

When did I say it was good or bad art? I said "$200 for this" which is the exact reaction most people have to overpriced "art".

This is more of a toy to cash in on fanboys than true art anyway.

Again, who are you to say that the painting of pure black wasn't worthy of someone spending some money on it? You are saying that piece of art wasn't worthy of being valuable. Not valuable to you? Sure. Not valuable to someone else? Thats not for you to decide.

Kudos to the designer. Pretty cool, IMHO. Though I would never drop $200 on it.

Guess what, everything has value to someone else. You have no problem saying a movie or Microsoft SUCKS so don't come off all high and mighty in this case.

Here is a Bill Gates/ Steve Jobs set. Is it art? Toy? Rip-off?

You be the judge...
