I love iChat, but sometimes when I want to use my Yahoo account, i use AdiumX..

I like AdiumX, but can't get it to work properly with DirectConnect to AIM users.

Also, I love the fact that AdiumX has OTR encryption support.

Yeah, Adium still has problems with direct connect and file transfer. Other than that it's great.

iChat 99.9% of the time, AdiumX for the other 0.01%. Once AdiumX has better File Transfer support, I'll be the opposite.

Here in Europe nobody is using AIM. MSN Messenger is what everyone is using.
What I don't understand is why Microsoft cannot make Messenger the same, with webcam support and the like.
Is it that difficult? Is it because the pc version relies on DirectX? Why can the aMSN team get a kind of support?

I'm using Adium almost exclusively. I also use Skype, but differently. Usually I don't have it running, so friends ask me to turn it on for voice chats. I sometimes use iChat for video chat.
I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.

I use iChat on my Mac and AIM on my PC. I also use Skype on both my Mac and PC.

Wrt to MSN messenger, as well as aMSN, there is also Mercury Messenger (which I haven't yet used) which apparently has all the features of MSN 7 on the PC so is more feature complete than MSN/aMSN. This website provides a good outline of all the chat software available on the Mac.

Personally, I only chat with my family at the moment so we all use iChat as we all have Macs.

Another Adium-only user. I never have any occasion to do any file transfers over AIM, so I've never missed out on anything there.

I use ichat for all my chatting needs. Ever since they put Jabber into the mix in iChat I use it for my MSN messenger also. Sure there isn't a file transfer option but really I don't use that much. And if I did need it I still have MSN loaded and ready to go.

I used to use Adium. Now I use iChat. I prefer using one program that does most of what I need and for me that's iChat. I, too, configured Yahoo! Messenger and MSN Messenger to work in iChat through Jabber.

Don't use it often, but iChat when I do. Love the ability to keep online without filling up dock space (by using the menuItem). Adium was nice, last time I checked, but I prefer the simplicity and elegance of iChat to the cumbersome but customizable Adium.

Adium. Does more.

Occasionally I find myself in Skype, or MSN, but on the pc at work it's straight up Google Talk, with a side of the worse and worse looking AIM thrown in for atrocity's sake.

God that interface is bad compared to MSN (yes, I'm in Asia, everyone uses MSN). My friends in the States are surprised by that, but really, the AIM interface hasn't changed since '98, and it wasn't good then.

Adium, or iChat, or Skype, or Google Talk.

I use Adium exclusively now. I have contacts on AIM, MSN, Yahoo, GTalk so need a good multi-protocol app.

I use solely Adium, though everynow and again I have a flurry of self-importance and try the other programs out. Usually when I'm meant to be working.

Given the fact iChat is down now, one would like to conclude either two things:
1. iChat is getting an upgrade to include other services / compatibility
2. iChat is unreliable since although it's an AIM client, it's related to .Mac in a certain way.
If .Mac is down -> iChat is down?

I use Proteus and Skype, mostly Proteus. Tried Adium several times, and I can't figure out exactly why, but I just don't like it at all. Proteus was well worth the $15 I paid.

aMSN. Has most of the MSN 7/7.5 features available on the PC. And can be made to look less ugly with skins.
I free'd my mind... now it won't come back.

Another Adium user. Used to use Proteus, changed a couple of months ago and have been happy. Even imported all of my history ok (though it buggered up some non-English characters).
