Having just moved again (to yet another country) I've decided to count how many places I've lived. I was surprised to discover that in my almost 46 years on this planet I've lived in 23 different houses in 4 different countries. This counts short stints like living with my brother for 6 months while a found my own place. Just curious how weird this is.
DOH! Last option in the poll should be 21+

I count 13 individual moves, with fewer total places lived, since I counted moving home from school for the summer, moving away for an internship for 7 months then back into the same place, etc.

I did not count moving home for college breaks, and got 8 moves to 9 places.

I should have clarified. I did not count when I moved back to the same place I had lived before (e.g. my parents house which I did 4 times).

Up to now: 7 places in 3 countries, only counting places where I have lived 4 months or longer. The 8th is already decided (in country #4), the 9th is in preparation (that would be in country #3).

I've lived in 11 places in 34 years.
Almost all of the moving happening in my 20s. Moving sucks.

I have accepted a post-doc in Chile and I have to work on my application for my second post-doc which I plan on doing in Japan. Unless, of course, I find a wife, a permanent position and get stuck in Chile

10 times in New York ( 19 years )
6 times in Paris ( 9 years )
2 times in Philadelphia ( 3 years )
1 time in Wichita ( 1 year )
3 times (I think) in Chicago (1 year )
This does not count all the extended travel, or crashing at friends' places. My wife has me beat as she's never - her whole life - lived in one place more than 5 years.

Thus far (in 26 years), I’ve lived in 11 different places, meaning 10 moves (since I’m not counting the ‘move’ from maternity ward to first place of residence). Nine of these places have been in Denmark (five in Copenhagen, three in Kalundborg, one in Jægerspris), and the last two in Beijing.

I moved 16 times before I turned 15, and since then (16 years) I have moved an additional 6 times (plus a slew a moves while I was on an church mission in the Philippines... but those don't really count since I just had a suitcase to take from place to place).

You're going to Chile? Dude, I love Chile. We're good friends with a Chilean/Canadian couple and I can't wait to visit Santiago next year.
Seriously, I predict you'll fall in live with the place. The girls are cute, the music is fantastic and food is excellent. It's a great country.

1 house - Jonesboro, Arkansas
1 house - West Memphis, Arkansas
2 houses - St. Louis, Missouri
5 houses - Bossier City, Louisiana (third most recession proof local economy in the United States - yee haw).
I like visiting other countries, but I'll probably always live here.

Both, I find it is always good to live somewhere different, brings new challenges, new cultures and quirks.

I'd wager to say that 50% of the people I went to High School with still live within 50 miles of that school. Personally I'd find that intolerable.
One of the things I love about living in Toronto is that we have such a multi-cultural society here. No need to travel to get the experience.

I live in Toronto, and I would strongly disagree with that. Toronto may be one of the most multicultural cities in the world, but going to a Chinese restaurant named Great Wall in Toronto isn't quite the same thing as climbing the Great Wall.

What happens if they went to high school in Toronto?
But yeah, I know what you mean. I grew up in a city of 200000, and couldn't fathom living there permanently. People are nice there, but it is culturally isolated.

Most of my moves have been because of school, but I did move twice before the age of 2.
I am currently living in my 12th residence and once I get a job I will move to number 13.

That’s true, of course—but going to a Chinese restaurant called 妈妈饺子馆 in Toronto will give you pretty much the same culinary experience as going to any ol’ 饺子馆 in China—with the exception that the staff actually speak English at the one in Toronto.

They're pretty good there, but the dumplings are often better in China.
Actually, I liked the dumpling shop next to Mother's Dumplings better too. Can't remember the name though. Some really ugly hole in the wall.

After graduating from college, it seems like I move every year. Then again, I change jobs every 1 to 2 years.
I get bored quick with my job and the places I live.

Bush Tax Cuts == Job Killer
June 2001: 132,047,000 employed
June 2003: 129,839,000 employed
2.21 million jobs were LOST after 2 years of Bush Tax Cuts.

One should never stop striving for clarity of thought and precision of expression.
I would prefer my humanity sullied with the tarnish of science rather than the gloss of religion.

Dad was/is an oil-man, got to live in and visit some really interesting countries when I was younger.
I moved to France for love. And the large property portfolio that she will inherit.

I've lived in 13 different places (that I can count). My family moved twice before I was 7. I left home at 19 and joined the Air Force, and moved around several times in my first 4 years (I'm not counting the 6 weeks of Basic Training in my total). I got out and moved with my wife to her new assignment, re-joined and we traveled around quite a bit after that. Not as much as a lot of military families, but we've done quite a bit of moving:
1 Rockwood, MI
2 Duplex in Flat Rock, MI
3 House in Flat Rock
4 Keesler AFB dorms (after Basic)
5 Apartment in Biloxi, MS
6 House in D'Iberville, MS
7 Apartment in Austin, TX
8 House in Del Valle, TX
9 Temporary quarters, Panama City, Panama
10 Base Housing, Albrook AFS, Panama
11 House in D'Iberville, MS (just blocks from the one in #7)
12 House in San Antonio, TX
13 NEW House in San Antonio

Well, I’ve only been there once, but their dumplings held a candle quite well to most dumpling places I’ve been to in Beijing, really.
Besides, it’s the sauce that makes the dumplings.

Like I said, they didn't move me around nearly as much as some people. In fact, I felt like I was stuck in Biloxi the second time. It took some special effort to get moved to San Antonio... And of course, they closed Bergstrom (in Austin) while I was stewing in Biloxi, so I couldn't get the government to send me back there-or I'd have retired there instead of here.

Well, that's a nice place, San Antonio. I was there about 6 months ago and loved it. The River Walk was nothing like I'd imagined. It was better.
