I want to move the guts of my computer into a PC case.
Does anyone know of this being done?
Any links to some good sites?????
Could I use a PC power supply instead of trying to move the Macs supply over?
I just want some more freedom inside the case.
Thanks

You're going to need to get out the Dremel and make some modifications to the back of the PC case.

I would recommend one of the Antec SX1040 cases. They are built well, easy to work with, and, should accomodate your needs well.

You should be able to tranfer the Mac's power supply to the PC case, but, keep in mind it's possible that the power supply lead to the logic board may not be long enough. You might need to get an extender.

Also, it's very possible that the mouting holes on the Mac's logic board won't line up with those in the case. You'll need a die and tap to create new holes so that you can mount the logic board properly.

It's a bit of work but worth it.

Why is it that when anyone puts their Mac in a PC case, they never put it in a good looking AND functional case...

Thats why I decided to move my built from parts Dual 800 into a Lian Li case, and I'm glad I did...I'll be posting a "how I did it" on my mac.com page when I have completed it...it works fine, I just don't want anyone looking at it in its currently unfinished state

http://homepage.mac.com/josephk/

I suggest you don't put it into a case that gives you dry heaves looking at

However, I recommend Aluminum cases, because they're cool (pun intended) as well as great looking ( Lian Li's at least - I used the PC61B ). Just get someone who is good with metal-work to do the main logic board mounting, as aluminum is very malleable when used in those thicknesses. (previous assumes you want to use an aluminum case)

Idunno if this is in some forum archives somewhere but.....This mod, I think it was a G3. Someone in China?(not sure) But I saw this sweet mod of a G3 in a 5 gallon gas can, with fans, cd cover plate and all. I'd try it, but I'm not sure of static buildup in them. I can't find a link either.

Might consider one of these cases which have something of a PowerMac look but might offer more room inside (it's also available in Black): http://store.yahoo.com/directron/aft6551.html

(Black version here: http://store.yahoo.com/directron/stk6551k.html)

Better pics of the case details can be found here: http://www.hardware-unlimited.com/re...ry/index.shtml

Been thinking of getting one of these cases myself.
