while i haven't watched an episode in it's entirety; i have dealt with it personally. thanksfully, not to the extreme that some on this show have dealt with.

My father's aunt used to save stuff that she had used to her usefulness, but was saving to give to others. She once gave my dad about a hundred bars of soap that were used up about 80%. She gave my mom a couple dozen pairs of shoes that had about 50% life left in them. At one point she had three houses and a cabin to hold all of her stuff. IT took about 5 years to get rid of it all when she had to be moved into a nursing home for health.

I once worked with a guy who collected magazines. He owned two condos next to each other, and in each on there was no room other than paths to the other rooms. No organization system what so ever. Ended up being condemned by a fire marshal and disposed without his consent. I always wondered why he ate out every night and seemed quite the social butterfly.

Hoarding is an expensive sickness.

Hoarders can be hard to watch, but it's an informative show.

Very addictive show, me and my girlfriend are regular watchers.

Some people aren't so bad, like this guy who kept buying stuff from Home Depot if it was on sale, lots of junk but at least it's not trash and feces like some people.

What is it with people watching train wrecks for amusement or personal fascination?

Don't get me wrong, I do the same thing. I spent hours last night watching news coverage of fatal car crashes, listening to 911 call recordings, and watching live snake feedings. I don't know why. It was fascinating, I guess.

I just wonder what it is about societies that has made things like this so easy to watch.

I think I hate every one of A&Es reality shows. Not that I'm a fan of most in general.

Is it wrong that I hang on to a Windows 95 CD just in case?

I used to have the whole System 7 box, floppies and all. Great nostalgic value, but a big waste of space. I just have System 7, 8, 9, 10 PB, and each major OS X release, along with Win 95, ME, XP, 7.

There was a time when I'd go apeshit for a Mac Plus and play around with it...for a week, and then it would sit. I have a PowerMac 7600 which I actually intend to get working again.

But a hoarder? No. In fact, I have some stuff in the attic that I can probably throw out.

I have a 30-gallon tote in my closet that is completely full of 12" white iBook components.

I should probably get rid of it.

My mom had a minor hoarder mentality that seemed to stem from her growing up in Appalachian Kentucky where they had to value *every* scrap or re-use any material because consumer items were scarce/non-existent (and they had no money) and survival depended on not being wasteful. But she wasn't afflicted to the point she couldn't throw things away.

I've not seen the show, but I'm betting it offers some insight into behavior people don't encounter with any regularity. And we humans tend to have a curiosity around extreme "train wreck" behavior.

I kinda hoard snack food.

You don't wanna see what happens if my roommate touches a bag of my chips!

I'll let them sit there until they're near expired, just because I only get cravings for snacks once in a blue moon, yet I keep buying them every time I go shopping

I love that show… it makes me feel not so bad about my middling housekeeping skills!

I have 6 Macs in my house, even though we're only two people. Does that count?

We've moved house three times in the last 1½ years. No junk at all here. I'm a lean mean house-moving machine.
