I accidentally watched a video by someone called "Rebecca Black". Somebody please kill me. Please. Pretty please. Or at least lend me some knitting needles so I never have to hear it again.

I didn't even know it was possible to use Autotune that badly. And believe me, I've tried.

Now I see why everyone's complaining about the music industry.

That is all.

Ah, the bit where you put an "a" before the name of a current pop culture phenomenon to proudly display how badass you are, e.g. "I know what a Bieber is."

I too have so far avoid this "Glee" completely, except as I fast forward through the shows that are cool, I have seen the the flash frames of the commercials. Looks about as lame as could possibly be.

I don't want to get into an argument because I'm not good at it, but you should give Glee a chance. It really is a great show. Season 2 was not as good as season 1, but if you've ever been put down, picked on, and you happen to like music even a little bit, you will like this show. It's funny, sweet, and has a lot of heart. And the musical performances aren't half bad. I still get chills from "Don't Stop Believin'". Give it a shot, you may like it!

No, it's terrible. This coming from someone that's been a "supportive" husband and sat through a couple seasons.

This is correct. They are wholly bad.

Overproduced, auto-tuned, plastic, passionless elevator muzak travesties of the original songs which in many cases are excellent songs. Don't Stop Believing being a perfect case in point.
I have plenty of more important things to do, if only I could bring myself to do them....

The only thing that will make you feel better - especially when you find yourself humming "Fri-day, Fri-dayyyy" this week - is to look up the video for Stephen Colbert and Jimmy Fallon's rendition with the Roots et al.

It's truly one of the greatest re-makes of all time.

Interestingly, the very weekend that this Swagger Jagger thing reaches number one in the singles charts, London breaks out in riots. Coincidence? I think not.

Did anyone catch the Stephen Colbert rendition of the song on Jimmy Fallon? That was great stuff, and for charity too!

Ha ha ha ha Swagger Jagger isn't number one at any singles charts, right? You're kidding. Good one!

Oh ... no. NO.

(my brain just vomited)

On a side note, looking up swagger jagger on the net, I find this; the first definition being quite obvious:

1. Swagger Jagger.

A shit, pointless song with stupid lyrics made by Cher Lloyd.

Me: You heard that song Swagger Jagger?
You: Yeah, it's ****ing shit.

2. Swagger Jagger

A word used to describe the act of a prostitute receiving triple penetration during group sex. Common phrase used in Gypsy/Traveler culture.

Ah now the lyrics make sense to me!

Hey, at least she can read a calendar.

You need a brain scrubber. In particular, one that go back in time and scrub this before it became old news.

I'll defy anyone to actually realise I've used it when I use it.

What you hear when you think of "Autotune" is a lazy way of using it which is "hard-quantizing" the pitch.

You know that even Pavarotti has been corrected in the studio, right?

Besides, learning to sing usually involves being bossed around by a fat woman for months on end. If that's your idea of a good time then go for it - each to his own.

I understand avoiding to learn how to sing, but I can't think of an artist that was withstood the test of time and produced more than a hit or two that wasn't interested in growing and getting better at what they do. Can you?

That depends on what it is they "do" — i. e. what's actually selling them.

Madonna didn't actually take real singing lessons until she needed them for Evita (which is a shame, because she got so much better, and "Ray of Light" could have benefited enormously). She'd already had almost twenty years of career by then.

Its not always an amazing singing voice that does it but stars that stick around longer tend to have some genuine talent beyond just looking pretty and appearing to be able to hold a tune. These kinds of stars seem to be getting rarer and rarer however.

Rolling Stones. AC/DC. Pavarotti. Eric Clapton.

Scratch that. Most of them actually. When you're pro and not *cough* experimental *cough*, you hit a plateau where you don't need to improve and you start getting diminishing returns if you try to.

Of course, if you're a jazz player, you can always improve your customer service when someone complains about their burger.
