I got a kit containing the parts for a clipper as a present back in the days when i was fifteen. After some attempts i finally gave up on it. A few weeks back i visited my mother and while poking around in the basement i rediscovered the kit. Now, after a few hours the hardest part, the construction of the hull (planks and ribs) is nearly done.

Launch time, hip hip hooray!

What are you using to seal the seams in the wood to make it water-proof? something modern like polyurethane or something more traditional like wax?

reminds me of the time I got a schooner kit when I was like 9. It was awesome until I actually launched it out in this pond and the whole thing fell apart because I used elmer's glue to construct it.

Anyway, looking good

Great! It'll go perfect with my model Battleship that fires real ammunition.

If I turn my head to the left, and down...I see my orphans, there under the workbench.

-2 meter sailplane...opened the box, looked at plans, put away, that was 2 years ago

-tugboat...bought all the supplies, paints, motor, controls, put away, that was 4 years ago.

-wooden daysailer...still factory sealed in box, untouched, bought 3 years ago.

*sigh*

looks great BTW

Hey you should take up model boat building for a hobby.

Just an idea.

I always wanted to have one of those really big detailed model sailboats. But I don't think I've got the patience to build one of those.

It´s a stand model. No need to get it watertight.

I´ll take it as an invitation for occasional bumps of this thread

I´m just seriously wondering about it right now, because the paint job has to be done when the hull is finished. I´d love to go with a dark wood paint, but since there are nails to be covered i tend to go with a solid colour. Maybe you (all) could suggest a painting.

I know it´s tempting. I visited a modelling shop last week in order to get new knife blades. I had a hard time resisting the nice pics on the kit boxes

I've tried....unfortunately, it interferes with my other hobby which is hunting/fishing.

Those dang elusive bearded clams are always in season.

The young ones are mmmmm-mmm....good eatin'
