That actually looks beter than Panther. This Brushed Finder is hideous. Functionally though it kicks arse.

Yes, we're doing this game. It's in semi private beta right now. Expect a MacNN beta soon All I can say is that everyone that tried it said it kicked ass.

Click it...

I'm trying to get over my G5 lust so I can avoid spending so much right away. I'd rather wait for the 3GHz, so I am overloading my senses. Too bad it's hard to get tired of a computer when I can't see it in person until August! Oh well. And once I found out the cool shots of the computer Apple had on heir site were of huge desktop quality, I had to use them.

So, temporarily, here is my current theme. If it weren't for the Dragthing glitch with the "Shadows" being lighter than what they're being cast on... It'd be perfect.

Panther minus the Brushed, with Max's sunken blue widgets and Carbons ATM mod.

heheh. might be the first panther theming. too bad you cant de-metal the finder. metal just slows down the resizing.

Nice mod Swiz

Proves that Panther can still be saved

I think it will be possible to demetallifize apps once Unsanity has updated their app. Otheriwse well have to be smart about making the themes and make the regular and metal apps look the same.

Could you post this theme by any chance? I would really like to try it! Where did you find the new Finder icon?

Well, after using SS Studio Pro for a long time now, I'm back to using SmoothStripes Glossy Sunken Blue Widgets (It's just so pretty! ) All of my icons are also back to default.

HERE!

Again, the Dreamweaver and Fireworks icons are from Macalicious.net... The left-most menubar item is actually Snard, but I replaced the icon with TigerLaunch (fits the Jaguar idea nicely), the gray menubar item is MenuMeters, and finally, PTHClock. The desktop is from PlasmaDesign.com.

Here's my modded theme that I'm running in Panther:

It's basically just the default Panther look, but w/ widgets and apple menu adapted from Max's Aqua themes. Basically, in Panther Aqua applications no longer have their own set of widgets (close/min/max), they call on the Metal app resources -- this sucks. So, I just took Max's SS Sunken Aqua widgets and resized the PXM's (not the actual widget, just trimmed the extra black space off) and put 'em ontop of the Metal widgets in Panther. The widgets have a slightly more noticable white glow in metal apps, but they look a hell of a lot better in Aqua apps w/ these widgets since they don't have the dark metal-like embedded shadows.

Hey guys thanks for the interest in my Panther "desktop experience" I've gotten a few requests for the theme and will be posting a DL link either in quandarry's existing thread or a new one. I just need to package it properly for your consumption. Thanks go to quandarry for providing the base and to Max for allowing me to use his awesome black menu items.

Desktop picture is from veer.com (you gotta sign up to get the wallpapers, but it's free and you get a free font every month) and I modified the .tcshrc and created the .hushlogin file to get the custom Terminal prompt. The theme is SmoothStripes with the square edges.

You can download it here. In the package I've included a couple of desktops that should compliment the theme well.

Thanks to quandarry whose initial release served as the base for this one and to Max who kindly let me include the black menu extras from his themes (themes look so much better with his menu extras).

So please try it out and post any bugs that you may find.

My new panther screenshots......

It took me a while to change the icons and make the theme.....but i finally figured it out.

The .rsrc file that used to have most of the system icons in it has been replaced with over a hundred individual .icns files. Not that hard but still......

Also even though my computer is moderately old, it still feels a little bit faster too me....maybe its just my imagination. (unfortunately i dont get any of the fast user switching eye candy)

Enjoying theming Jaguar while I can before Panther destroys it all!

This is my 1gzTiBook running my new Titanium3 theme with a desktop picture I made of the new G5 from the ones on the Apple site. Of special interest is the Titanium3 iTunes theme that I made yesterday so it would match the rest of my interface! Click the picture to see it full size....

...for the sheer joy of it...??

in os9 i ran a hack called bartender, kept the menubar hidden except when i was in apps & needed it; fun, but a really buggy hack.

& yes, just want the APE to do the hide thing..

so...??

But you're ALWAYS in an app in OS X. Even the Finder. What app are you using that doesn't have a menu?

That's not what I mean.

I mean, what apps is he using that aren't games that don't have menubars? Of course most games don't have them. And when they don't, they turn them off themselves.

and...
just for aesthetics, would be nice to hide the menubar.

ok...not much of a reason.
but where is this mysterious APE to be found??

next 10-15 posts:
Jasoco continues to deny any need for a menubar hiding utility
FisherKing continues to ask about said APE module.

Meanwhile I googled for the module and I'll be damned, no such module seems to exist. I'm guessing its something that stewed haxied up himself.

Yep, currently that module exists only on my harddrive, as it is not in a state in which I'd like to release it for public consumption.

Currently I have assigned the 5th mouse button to toggle menu bar on/off, but that works only in Carbon apps so far - the schizophrenic nature of OS X is forcing me to write the whole thing once again for Cocoa apps.

Besides, a Finder without menu bar is perfectly usable if you know your hotkeys

hi stew, just few comments on your haxie- will you be releasing it to the nice people here on the forums in the future? , and it would be nice if the menu bar and dock was hidden till a app called for it. i tried playing around with a little app from apples dev page that hides the menu bar and the dock. the menu bar slides down from the top when the mouse goes near the area that the menu bar was, but the dock gets killed and cant be used- that sucks 'cause i like the dock. in your haxie does the menu bar and dock stay hidden completely ?

and yes i love the hotkeys, much faster once you get to know them.
