I'm new at this portable Mac stuff, but I am already finding a number of accessories invaluable when using my iBook.
I have used the MacNN forums to research possible add-ons, including this thread on "wraps" in the Powerbook forum
http://forums.macnn.com/cgi-bin/ulti...&f=17&t=004475
So I thought I'd share my recent finds and maybe others will post their favs too, making this a one-stop topic for new (and perhaps old...) portable Mac users...
If people add items to the list I hope a link will be provided so that it will be easier to find/order.
Numero Uno on my list: the Traveler CoolPad
http://www.roadtools.com/ WOW! Thin and light, it's a Lazy Susan for portable computers. No more having to lift the iBook in order to share something with others, and the extra space under the iBook probably enhances the cooling provided by the bottom of the Mac. My iBook lives on the Traveler CoolPad on a desk in my office.
$20 at Staples or available online. Road Tools offers a discount if you purchase the Traveler CoolPad and Podium CoolPad at the same time.
Number Two: A leather screen protector from J.R. Hill
http://www.jrhillandcompany.com/ I've read conflicting reports regarding the efficacy of the small rubber bumpers when it comes to protecting the iBook's screen, so why take a chance? I chose J.R. Hill's leather protector because it is slightly larger than others I looked at, making it easier to quickly cover the entire keyboard, plus it is claimed that the chemicals used to process the leather will not harm a portable computer. $12.49 online.
Number Three: The Kensington FlyLight Notebook USB Light
http://www.kensington.com/products/pro_mob_d1334.html Also available in platinum finish
http://www.kensington.com/products/pro_mob_d1446.html I got mine at Staples for $10 using a coupon sent to me by the store; otherwise it is $20. Staples only had the basic black model. Suprisingly bright, it uses only 90 seconds of battery power per hour of computing.
Red LED models are available for people who don't want their night vision affected by using a regular light.
That's All Folks!
