Hi i recently noted that iTunes i very slow, the beachball shows a lot.
I've got iTunes 6.0.1 (3)
an iBook G4, 1,22 Ghz 1,25 Gb ram with airtunes.

It is slow even to select another playlist, or just to use the userinterface. when one playlist is active, and i click on another it takes 5 seconds until it opens.

the processor is used to maximum. i'm now running safari (this page) and iTunes (2300 songs in library) playing a song, not streaming with airtunes rigth now. processor usage is about
user: 57 %
system: 42%

Does anyone know what the problem might be?

i closed iTunes, and restarted it, now it works better.
half to one second to change playlist now

it now changes between 8 to 15 %, playing the same song as it did when i wrote my last post.

We usually stream to stereo with airtunes, and iTunes is almost constantly on, playing music.
i streamed to computer when conducting this test to close out that option.

Music is re-encoded to Apple Lossless Encoding (ALE) when streaming over AirTunes, so that is going to take some extra CPU power. Your machine ain't the fastest on the block, so that could have a lot to do with it when you're sending to an Airport Express.

If you are subscribed to a number of Podcasts, it will also eat into some processor power.
