Someone told me that it's possible to use GarageBand to convert audio from tape into a digital format. I was wondering how to do this and if it's not possible, what software or other stuff would you recommend?

audio out on your tape deck to audio in on your mac. You can capture the sound with any number of free audio programs.

Can you explain that further? I'm a little slow with electronics. >_<

What cord do you use? And where's the 'audio in' in my PowerBook? Thanks.

tripletaker, he may have to draw you pictures if the above mechanical explanation isn't sufficient-it REALLY is that easy. Search for Mac audio capture programs, and you're sure to find one that is both free and effective. No, I won't do that for you.

The newest 15 inch PowerBook.

Okay, I guess where it goes in is pretty simple. But is it one of those red and white cables? Or just a single red one?

Red & White = stereo
Red = mono

If you want to capture a stereo image from the tape deck
then I'd use a red & white one. This is only if you've got
a 1/8" to Stereo RCA cable though.. you really only need
a 1/8" to 1/8" to do what you want to do...

1/8" - 1/8":

<L|_|____####============ plug this into your laptop where it has the little mic icon

<L|_|____####============ plug this into your tape deck's headphone port

OR .. if you have a totally sweet tape player it looks like this:

1/8" - Stereo RCA:

<L|_|____####============ plug this into your laptop where it has the little mic icon

|000\#
(00|0000)####=======|RED|= plug this into the tape deck where it says (RIGHT OUTPUT)
|000/#

|000\#
(00|0000)####=====|WHITE|= plug this into the tape deck where it says (LEFT OUTPUT)
|000/#

I imagine your tape deck doesn't have xlr, tos link or spdif so I'll stop here.
