You mean you tried and failed, or that it installed fine and the image wouldn't show up?
Apple's Quicktime download page seems to state that v. 6.0.3 is for Mac OS 8.6 and 9, but I'm not sure if that makes a difference. Try the stand-alone installer and see if that works. Otherwise you could try installing earlier versions.

Have you tried "rebuilding your desk-top" ?
and if that doesn`t work try zapping your "pram". (ref: Apple Help)
And if all else fails download the latest version of "Quick Time" from Apple`s web site , that should do the trick
