Hi Guys,

Wanted to get your opinion on purchasing a 15" 1.25G Al Book.
Which would be better buying it online and getting it shipped
or going to a retail place and paying the sales tax? With all
the issues I'm torn which is the better route. Can you give me
any plus and minius-es. Thanks for the help.

You're going to pay sales tax either way. If you want a built to order model, online is the only way. The store's can only do in store RAM upgrades. If you order a BTO through the store, they do what you essentially would do and order it online and get it shipped to them for pick up.

No, i think by online he means eTailers. Do your research, i bought from Amazon.com and they have a pretty solid return policy. And good pricing. Just do some background checks on different etailers on boards like this before you decide... you can save a lil money this way.

May God Be With You.

Well he could also get it from places like MacMall who sometimes give things like Free Printers and More RAM. Sometimes they also seem to be a couple of bucks cheaper.

If you can wait a day for your order then I'd get it Mail Order but if you are like me and need instant gratification and can't wait get it from the store.

I bought my Powerbook in Delaware... no sales tax!

Normally I do buy most of my stuff from a store, since it's usually easier to deal with problems when you can talk to some one face to face, as opposed to yelling into a phone.

I'm about 1 week away from making the 15" 1.25 GB plunge and find myself in a similar quandry....

Mac Mall has the best freebies, but from what I've read here, the worst reputation when it comes to solving problems. In addtion, I've gotten pretty nasty sales people on the telephone on several occasions.

CDW/MacWarehouse has the best site (IMHO) and good reputation, but the fewest frebies.

MacSoutions? Club Mac? Who should get my hard earned cash? Any personal experiences with these companies?

And why are you paying sales tax on-line orders?

I thought I should mention when you are planning to order through mail catalogue company, you really should steer away from the memory offer since the al-book is very picky about memory and trust me, when they give u free ram...don't expect compatability on those ram....

I too was concerned with the free memory compatibality issue. MacWarehouse assured me over the phone that their free memory has been tested and was totally compatable with the 15" Al Book. Unfortunately, they are no longer offering this perk.
