Hi I have multiple Macs at home 5 to be exact, they are all on the same LAN, I tranfer files a lot from one Mac to anther, When I use Connect to Server under the Go Menu in Finder, it always asks for the IP address of the other Macs, like afp://192.168.1.108, with so many Macs, sometimes it's hard to remember the IP of each Mac, since each of my Mac has a name, is there a way to just type in the name of the Mac instead of the IP?

Thanks in advance.

Yes, the name of each computer is set in Preferences - Sharing.

It is followed by .local.

So you would type afp://iMac.local

Or you could simply double click to open up your hard drive and see all the shared machines on your network under "Shared" on the left side, assuming you have file sharing enabled in the Sharing preferences.

You can also add a bookmark in the Connection window (Command-K.) After you type the name.local , hit the + button. Now you can just double-click to get to whichever Mac you want.
