What is this tiny Apple touchscreen that just leaked in Taiwan? -- Engadget

Posted in here because at that size it must be for a handheld... something!

iPod nano touch? touchscreen remote? What can you do on a 3cm touchscreen anyway, maybe swipe or iPod wheel gestures?

It'll be much easier if you just comply.

As a remote, I think you'd be doing a lot of "scroll, lift thumb, reset scroll" to navigate screens. So I'll go with nano til someone floats a more convincing idea.

(The other rumored touchpad has yet to be released anyway)

I agree, although I personally hope Apple doesn't make a touch Nano, too. The Click Wheel must stay strong!

iPad nano. Wait a second, isn't that called the iPod touch?

iPod touch 4G, new nano/shuffle cases debut? | iLounge News

A photo of an iPod touch case with a camera, and a small square device. This could be the 3cm screen in a new iPod nano, it has a dock connector hole but no click wheel and buttons on the edge like the old shuffle, also an open panel on the back, maybe for a clip.

If they're ditching the click wheel on the nano, then I think the classic may die next week.

It'll be much easier if you just comply.

What does the nano have to do with the classic? If anything, it's a reason for the classic to stick around. The classic isn't a popular option, but it's important to keep it around as a standard iPod for those who really do want 120 GB of music on them at all times.

I have to agree with adamfishercox - the classic ipod does fill a small niche for those people who do have large music collection. I find it quite useful for use in the car (and I certainly wouldn't be using a touchscreen device to power my car stereo).

Only mentioned the classic because this would leave it as the only thing left with a click wheel.

It'll be much easier if you just comply.

It seems highly likely that Apple will replace the classic with a 128gb iPod touch.

As for the nano/square thing, my guess is that rather than continue to shave down the nano's thickness or shove increasingly dumber features into it (like a video-only camera with horrible quality) they've opted instead to merge the nano and shuffle into the 'cheap' iPod offering and focus on getting the teens/hipsters on the iPod touch bandwagon.

Also, according to one of the rumors, the new iPod touch is going to have a back that's similar to the front of the current iPod classic, e.g. aluminum and mostly flat, but with curved edges.
