i am looking for another audio player other than itunes. i might not have searched hard enough on here for something else. itunes is good and all but lets just say my music collection excedes what it needs to keep up. the ui pisses me off as well. i use foobar and/or winamp on my windows box and xmms on linux so i was wondering if there was another player for os x that could handle 20k+ songs in a library. thanks for the input.

There are a few dj apps, but other than that, I don't know of any app which will manage your music library better than iTunes. winamp/winamp clones can't do that either, you work off folders. There are a few slightly more sophisticated players for Linux for instance, but all I know of (with one exception) are based on the actual folder structure (the last one is based on an SQL database, but is optimized for a touch screen interface).

Other than the DJ software, I think iTunes is still your best bet. You're more than welcome to try versiontracker.com.

Use smart folders in iTunes.

Dj software is a good idea too.

I haven't noticed any problems managing a 25k+ iTunes library at work. What kind of issues are you having?
