Recently, my wife got her learner's permit and we traded in our unwieldy minivan for a smallish hatchback. Naturally I'd like to help get her ready to take the driver's license test. But I learned so long ago (~17 years) that I've pretty much internalized a lot of it. Trying to explain parallel parking is like trying to teach somebody how to walk.
Anyway, she's got the hang of backing up, accelerating and braking reasonably gracefully, and turning. But I don't know what to tell her now that we need to get out of our quiet residential neighborhood and onto bigger multi-lane streets and even highways. And of course, there's the parallel parking thing.
Anybody have any experience teaching a new driver? Got any pearls of wisdom to share, or resources to point to? Thanks in advance.

I tried teaching my wife how to drive but it was driving me insane. I paid for lessons and was completely satisfied.

My wife was teaching her daughter how to drive several years ago, but she had no patience for it. I took over the job and my stepdaughter thought I was better at it. I guess I had the patience. Which was odd, because she scared the **** out of me.

I've never taught anyone to drive, but I've taught plenty of people how to drive stick. At the expense of my clutch.

I wish I was quick-witted enough to make some kind of sex joke of that, but sadly, nothing comes to mind. I definitely have the immaturity level though
