5 hours of use seems to be about the limit for the 4s for me. It's no lightweight compared to my old 3G (once milked that baby for a week)

Seriously? How low do you let it go before you plug in? What's your usage pattern?

My original 4s was lasting 8 before it hit 20% and that was enough for Apple to give me a warrantee replacement.

I'm a heavy user of mail, but the main blame my job's overkill high security network that's very flaky with iPhones (Macs in general - Cisco is supposed change something to improve the situation). I also enjoy horrible cellular coverage from my work location, so it's two strikes right off the bat.

To be fair, the battery is not to blame. On weekends I can go two days without charging - I'm playing Asphalt 6, HBO, Scramble, Scrabble... Its a champ overall, except during the work week

iP4s, totally variable and I do not know why. I can get 2+ days of usage or one (no games, no mail, very little Safari; Siri, telecons, some text, some geo-locating). I have not worried about it and tried to diagnose usage because my general routine is to charge every night anyway.

New iPhone 4S. 16 GB white. Had it about 1 week. I notice... it gets bad battery life. I use is on and off each day. I don't talk much. Surf the Web, Email, text, watch video here and there. It gets me through 1 day... about there. But it seems to drop when I'm not using it. I left in in my pocket just after it hit me with the 20% battery life warning. A few hours later, I went to use it, and it immediately gave me a 10% battery life warning. So there you go. Something is draining the battery.

I've just now done a bunch of battery saving tips... see how it goes:

1. Turned off Ping
2. Switched from Push to Fetch for Mail
3. Turned off some location based Apps
4. Turned off Bluetooth
5. Turned off automatic time zone
6. Turned off sending diagnostics and usage
7. Turned off some notifications

In other words, I just made my phone dumber. We'll see how it goes.

I finally updated mine to 5.0.1 last night and it drained a full charge overnight. When I say overnight, between about 3am and 7am. That sucks big time. I suspect I'll have to restore it (Used the software update last time).
I have plenty of more important things to do, if only I could bring myself to do them....

This is a usage pattern issue.

Except for when I need the Adobe suite my iPhone is my primary computer, period.

Did you prune all the battery hogs?
