I've got a 1.2 GHz iBook G4 that I just recently updated to Leopard. It had no problems sleeping and waking in Tiger, but when I try to wake it up in Leopard, it freezes after a few seconds. I can still see the Desktop and I can still try to click on things, but eventually I get the SBOD and I have to either hold the power button to shut it down or hit Ctrl-Cmd-power button to restart.

Console shows nothing interesting. I don't even get any panic logs. The hardware test showed no problems, but I tried it without the extra RAM and the Airport Extreme card and it still froze. Also, I already reset the NVRAM and the PMU and again, nothing changed. Anything else I could try?

Your title says sleep but your post says wake - which is it?

If it is sleep, it is probably because Leopard is writing the RAM to the hard drive and this takes longer but is more secure for your data (previous versions of OS X just went to sleep without doing this, iirc, so it was faster).

Yeah, I could have sworn I put "wake from sleep" in the title.

I managed to get a kernel panic last time. The panic log is at the end of the post. I noticed that I get the flashing question mark for a brief instant when I start the computer, but then the OS continues to load normally. Could that be related? Also, I found out that the previous owner had put in a new hard drive. Could a bad hard drive cause sleep problems in Leopard and not Tiger? How can I find out if the hard drive is good? I downloaded SMARTReporter and it showed no problems.

Do you have any USB hard disk drive enclosures, other USB devices or a USB hub connected to your iBook? If so, you might try disconnecting them before putting the 'Book to sleep and see how that plays out.
