Unfortunately, I had to send my mbp in to ge tthe screen replaced and it won't be back in time....I have to do a project for my class. I have a Mac Mini desktop and a flat panel monitor, but no webcam. Can anyone suggest a webcam that has sound built in and will allow me to use it with iMovie? I don't anything fancy......just something that will get the job done. Any ideas?

If you happen to have access to a mini-DV camcorder, you can plug it in via Firewire and use that.

Buy an iSight from Bestbuy or Futureshop.. whatever you have there.. use it.. take it back within the 30 day return policy. Pay the 15% restocking fee if you have to, but if you don't... bonus.

I just got the isight cam this evening. It was discounted....though I didn't think they had student pricing for isight....oh well, saved 20 bucks. I may even keep it.....but we'll see after I do my assignment.

This is shockingly unethical, folks. Knock it off. If you're going to steal (which is essentially what this is) at least have the brains to not discuss it in a public forum.

It's not stealing. Nobody is being deprived of anything. And frankly, why do you even care. It doesn't hurt you.

It is unethical to buy something with the intention of returning it. I wouldn't go as far as calling it stealing, but it certainly isn't right. No matter what anyone tells you, this practice is wrong and many people look down on others for it.
If a large percentage of people start doing this, companies will notice, and you might as well kiss hassle free returns goodbye. Many stores now charge a re-stocking fee for returned merchandise. One of the reasons is to discourage this practice. As a consumer, I value being able to return merchandise if I have to, without this implemented fee.

BestBuy or whomever you buy it from has to pay, both in their lost profit (opened goods sell for less), lost time (they have to pay someone to handle the paperwork for your rental/theft), and so I (and everyone else) who shops at the store has to pay higher prices.
They sell, they don't rent. If you want to rent something, do it honestly.
It's amazing that such a basic idea as honesty is lost amongst so many people.
"It doesn't hurt you." - ...neither do a million other wrong things. That doesn't make them any less wrong. But in this case, clearly it does hurt me because I then am forced to pay more money at the store due to all the slippage and lost revenue from the above.

after some test videos, it started to freeze and the image split into about eight pieces....:-( .....this is definitely going back....as as expensive as this thing is, I know it shouldn't be doing that....all I need is to be in hte middle of a recording and then have the thing freeze on me :-(....
