Hello. This is my first posting in this forum but I've been reading daily for about a month.
First off I just want to jump in and say that I think that macbook in black is totally worth the extra 200 bucks. It just looks great. I came from a powerbook and didn't want to go for the "ibook white". It felt like a downgrade.
--------------
I have had many crashes with my macbook. Mind you I have been pushing it pretty hard with final cut and other processor intensive things. Also testing a ton of different software. Core duo temps seem normal at 50 idle and the sixties on full load. It’s a week 26.
I've notices crashes consistently in three instances:
1) Exporting from Final Cut (not universal) in an already hot room. I had to point a fan at the macbook to get it to export the whole movie.
2) A little while after I wake it up from sleep it will crash. Not every time but its seeming to happen more now. It seems to happen at the exact second I click a link or an icon with the cursor. Like that click broke the camels back.
3) I’ve had weird experiences with the camera also. One time when I used photo booth, every time I went to take a picture it would crash. Again it was like click that picture broke it. It was a very inconsistent and after a few restarts I gave up trying to figure out. It seems to work now but I don’t use it much.
All these crashes are the same. Screen goes black. Lights go off. It’s sometimes quite a trick to get it to restart too. Hold down the power button and all that. I may be doing it wrong.
------------
Anyhow…..thanks for reading. Any advice on how to handle these problems or is some a re known issues or not.
Thanks
tabbs

I had very similar experiences with my powerbook when I was asking alot of it.
When I hear people say they never have a crash I assume they are running word and a browser. Never really pushing the machine. Also It's been really hot here. 90's and up for weeks and no AC.
I guess I'm jaded because I've never had a computer that didn't crash.
You just have to learn to caress the old girl........
Do you really think a new logic board or whatever they do is going to give me a 100% stable machine?
I know it could be more or less complicated than that but..

How much RAM do you have? Mac OS X can never really have enough. Although I admit that behavior smells more like bad RAM or Logic Board then run-of-the-mill crashes (and I do push my MBP quite hard, and Civ 4 is about the only thing that's ever crashed, that is until I turned Anti-Aliasing off).
BTW, is your RAM stock or Apple supplied? If it's Apple, call Applecare - if it's some other brand you may need to replace it.
I would run hardware test (it's on the software DVD that came with your MacBook). Just insert the DVD and hold "D" on start up (If I remember right). Run the extended test and see if it comes up with any errors.

I'm about to be off on vacation for a few weeks. Was planning on taking the macbook with me.
It shouldn't make any difference (in the service I get) if I bring it in when I get back, would it?
I haven't purchased Applecare yet but I'm cool for the first year anyway, right?
Thanks for the help

did the hardware test. no errors.
It took me two trys though. First time when I hit the "start test" button it imediatly crashed.
Second time no problem. I think I did something wrong.....
It was D...not C.....

My white Macbook (2ghz) has not crashed since I brought it (July). Running Nikon NX and photoshop side by side, editing multiple 34mb raw files and itune playing in the background.
Could it be having a 2gb ram helps?

Hmmm. I don't like the sound of that at all, definitely ask Apple support about it. ;-(
