Not sure how the licensing scheme is for VM ware fusion and there web site is a bit lame so will ask here. I do not plan on using boot camp. I want to install xp, vista and possibly 2003/2008 server. Am asuming the single pack will work but want to make sure.Is this correct or do I need the 5 pack license. Will be installing on a new macbook pro. Thanks for the help.

I don't believe there is a guest OS limit on what you can run under Fusion (physical constraints such as memory, hard drive space aside). The 5 pack is for the number of host OS computers you will be running Fusion on.
You are supposed to be licensed for the guest OSes though, obviously.

There's already lots of discussion of this in this forum. I started this topic a couple times myself. The final verdict seems to be personal preference. They both do what they need to do and the feature sets are only slightly different. I've been sticking with Parallels after trying (and purchasing) both.

I use VMware, and I'm very happy with it.
Performance wise, VWmare seems to have a bit of an egde, according to most reviews. I can't compare the feature set, as I never used both productively.

What Steve said. Neither Parallels or Fusion has a hands-down advantage over the other, and each has its own quirks. Try both (they both have a free trial, or at least they used to) and see which one does what you want without bugging you too much, and go with that one.

Downloaded the demo and installed XP pro today. Installed smooth as silk. Am impressed so far. Installed it on the mac pro, gave it two processors and 2gb ram. It runs great while running boinc using 3 processors. Was surprised I didn't get any errors. Just hope 2003 server installs this smooth.
