Never had problems before I upgraded to the "N" that I purchased from apple. Since upgrading, has been sporatic problems but now i have pretty much 1 bar. Reset my linksys router, reinstalled the update to "N" but still almost dead. My mac pro, which I updated to doesn't have any problems, and there in the same room. Is there a way to tell if the airport is getting ready to bite the dust? I also ran the hardware test in extended mode but nothing showed up. This is on a 1st generation 24 inch iMac. Suggestions? Again, no issues with the mac pro or a pc laptop. tnks

Have you tried running the router in 802.11b or g mode? Some routers (at least my AEBS) let you choose which band you want to use. Try testing it in the other bands. If n still gives you problems while the others do not, I'm not sure what to tell you. Are you sure this machine supports n? I forget the specs...

The 54G is only B & G. I have it set for both. I should still see full bars. And besides, my mac pro is also upgraded to N and get full bars all the time. After my backup, will try reinstalling back to tiger 4.0 and see what happens. If it still does it, I have extended apple care and will have to bring it in. tnks for the response.

Finished loading 10.4.7 and now my wireless works fine. Definately a software issue. Was starting to wonder if the "N" upgrade had something to do with it but will load 10.4.11 and see what happens first. Heres something wierd though. I have my linksys set to NOT broadcast and the iMac found it as it showed up in my prefered networks. Before I reloaded from the install disks, I used the zero data option when reformatting. Not sure what to think about this except maybe time to replace it.

Not broadcasting an SSID is kind of like throwing a tarp over your guitar amp and still leaving the level set at "11". The SSID IS there, just not in a "beacon" form, so your AirPort card was able to identify the network and list it. There's nothing wrong with your router; instead, there's something more functional with your wireless card.
