i posted this on my blog earlier, but seeing as how no fecker ever reads that self-pitying drivel, i thought i'd throw it into the mix here:

i've just looked in itunes and sorted my tunes by playcount, so i could find out which ones i've been listening to the most during 2005. if [like me] you're extremely bored and have too much time on your hands, you might like to do likewise and compile your own "top ten hits" of the past year. there aren't really that many surprises in mine, apart from the snow patrol tune in at no. ten - dunno how that got there. i'm sure i've only listened to that about three times!

Hmmm... I've mostly just had "Strange Times In Casablanca" by John Cale and "The One And Only" by Chesney Hawkes on constant rotating play. All year.
Been inclined to wander... off the beaten track.
That's where there's thunder... and the wind shouts back.

Mostly through month or so we've just listened to Christmas and related music. But tesseract's playlist works great for me!

I really don't think I can produce a "top ten of 2005" list since we only got our iPod in August. Not enough time to really get used to having it.

Yeah, are you the kinda person who just leaves iTunes play whether or not you're in the room listening?

I don't see how they could.

Personally, I thought this would be restricted to music released in '05.
But then again there's enough onscure stuff on here that I can't be sure whether some people aren't.

mdc's idea of using a smart playlist is a good one - but his logic's slightly flawed

making a smart playlist of "songs added in 2005 sorted by most played" won't include songs you've had in your playlist since before 2005, but which you could still have played during 2005.

unfortunately, i couldnae find a way of showing only tunes played during the previous year [as there's no option for "played" only "last played"]. however the following setup will give you a top ten of your most played tunes during the previous 365 days, irrespective of when they were added to your library. arrgh! - if only i'd posted this on 31st december. how much more straightforward would it all have been!

those folks with the play counts up in the 200's are either counting the number of 'plays' in the past 4 or 5 years, or are like that bloke who lives downstairs from me and only seems to have two tunes!

Hmmm... Maybe if you added a Date added after 5/01/05?

But yeah if you heard a song 215 times this year, either you had your computer waking you up with it, or you were looping it and not really paying attention.

Edit: This would have been pretty fun had my laptop not died with my nice fat playcounts...
