Yep and i agree with them. I am sure 90% of his problems will be fixed with software updates. Games will also come in great supply next year.
To be fair though many of the problems he mentions were also on the 360 and it took them like 8 months to add/change/fix them.

True. However, is seems that MS went with easy first, and added features later. I haven't tried the PS3, but it seems from reports they went features first, but with a clunky implementation.

No, but I am not impressed with the launch titles or the constrained supply.
The price and software bugs don't bother me as the price will come down, I don't find it high for what you get and the software bugs can be fixed.
On the same note I wasn't impressed with the Wii and 360 launch titles either. Systems need a year before you can really judge, so far the 360 has been doing very well as my only complains are the huge power supply, the noise, shitty BC list and the HD-DVD drive should have been built in. None are worth skipping the system for though.
Gears of war has shown that it is way more powerful than the already impressive games from a year ago.

There's a PS3 on display at my local Target. I don't know what the game was — some racing game — but it looked awesome and the analog stick is the nicest I've ever felt. So from trying it, that's my impression. I guess you can't tell all the niggling problems from that, though.

I think that's the MotorStorm demo they have on the units at Target. Not out till next year. I was impressed with how sleek the system itself looks, but it's as big as I thought it would be. Not sure I have space for it.

Looks like the PSP/PS3 integration is only marginally useful.
I think they copied the GCN/GBA concept a little _too_ closely.

Maybe the Cell is powerful enough to do PS2 emulation in software, but the software wasn't ready yet. If so, then future PS3s might be able to drop the hardware PS2 and therefore reduce cost once the software emulator is ready.

Gee. You post with "Slate hates the Wii", and I post back with an article posted at the same time saying how much one of their writers loves the Wii. You see, you've confused an opinion piece with a review. An opinion piece is, often, when two writers are brought in to write about two opposing viewpoints. One writes for something, another writes against it. The articles are posted at the same time.
Somehow this is all way over your head and you believe this article is a review from Slate, even though it lacks any rating what so ever.

EB Games has gotten their second PS3 shipment in, in some states.
Microsoft has just released their HD DVD update, which addresses issues with certain HD DVD discs.

Gears of War sells 1 Million copies in 2 weeks
A million units sold in just two weeks. That makes Gears of War the fastest-selling original Xbox game of all time (non-sequel).
On top of that, there have been more than 10 million gameplay sessions, 7 million Achievements earned, and it's earned the distinction of being the best-reviewed next gen title of the year.
Gears of War just released in Europe, and in just two days, our friends in Australia and New Zealand join in the fun.

While GoW is darn purty, I totally suck at it. I'm about 20 minutes into the game and can't make it any further. Go ahead, laugh it up.
The lack of being able to use cheat codes on the 360 is starting to really irk me.

Everything I saw when I was on the Marketplace a few days ago said 11.22. It's around 6am on the West coast, so I assume in a few hours when people get to work at Microsoft, they'll flip the switch and everyone can download stuff. . . which I hope is faster than downloading demos.
Keep at Gears of War by the way. You get used to the controls. Just keep covering and diving around. Playing it like a regular Run and Gun FPS will get you killed quickly.

Guess I'm impatient - it's up now.
From Endgadet:
TV Shows:
$2.00 - SD Quality
$3.00 - HD Quality
Movies:
$3.00 - SD Quality
$6.00 - HD Quality
48 Movies, 50 TV Shows
'V For Vendetta' is up there, too. With that, it just pwned iTunes' selection.

I hate this point system. Feels like getting shafted such as at festivals where you have to buy tickets for food and drink. It's not just MS, either.
Snipped for MacDaillyNews: Microsoft's "points" are designed to confuse consumers and generate interest income from "left over" amounts. Now you know exactly why "1 Microsoft Point" doesn't equal "1 U.S. Cent." Boy, if Microsoft can dupe enough people into this Microsoft Points scheme, those "left overs" will really add up.

Any word on how much disk space the HD movies take up? I'm at work and can't check.

I was hoping they wouldn't even get $900. $1200 is still 100% profit.

Still, even with all of those PS3s out there, Blu-ray disc sales at Amazon haven't increased all that much it seems, despite the fact even just 275000 PS3 represents probably something like a 10-fold increase in overall Blu-ray players. It's still a bit early to tell, but my guess the Blu-ray-exclusive studios are getting a little nervous that the PS3 didn't lead to the hugely increased BD sales as quickly as some people had predicted.

Week ago, I was tempted to buy 2,000 MS Points, but I decided not to. I won the Xbox 360 Core system 7 months ago, so I don't have a 20GB HDD on top of it. Meanwhile, I heard that Mircosoft isn't planning to release a larger HDD for the Xbox 360.
Basically, I can't justify the MS Point system and the price of the 20GB HDD.

actually, i'm pretty sure the projected launch number was more towards 200,000 than 400,000. so 275,000 seems about right.
Sony press release a while ago stated a 400,000 launch in all of north america. and then later had to cut it down due to shortages

Wow.
What a f'n awesome machine.
So, now that I've come down to Earth...
It's a 20 GB machine. I didn't want to wait until friggin' EASTER to get a 60 GB.
It's heavy
It's black
It's BADASS.
First and foremost, I was able to use the same component cables from my PS2 with my PS3. The only thing I had to change was the power cord which is the standard computer type.
The unit auto-outputs via analog, so I had to switch to optical before I got audio. No biggie.
It works out of the box in 480i, and I switched it to 1080i /drool.
Standard PSP-type menus. Very easy to navigate.
The PS3 uses standard USB ports. I haven't hooked anything to it yet except the SIXAXIS.
Ridge Racer 7. Absolfrickinlutely AWESOME. There's a definite sense of speed playing this game. Controls are superb.
RR7 had the 1.02 update on the disc. I'm updating to 1.10 now.
The sound is AMAZING.
Blu-Ray worked in 1080i over the PS2's component cables. Watched a little bit of Telladega Nights and Speed.
That's all for now. As soon as the 1.10 update goes through I'll play with it more.

The press release was 400000 for North America, and 100000 for Japan.
Then it was cut down to 80000 in Japan, yet they shipped 88400 in Japan. They never updated the 400000 number for North America.
Let's say NA was cut down by a similar amount as Japan, ie. To 80% of the previous estimate. That would mean 320000 for NA.
320000+88000 = 408000
Even if you subtracted 100000 units from that, you're still left with 308000, which is way more than what nextgen is claiming.

The PS3 launch number is closer to 150,000. Most stores were getting less then half the amount of 360s they got last year, and the 360 shipped 330,000 on launch.

It was pretty much the same thing with the PS2 in its first year. It didn't have much in the way of great launch games -- a crappy Tekken, SSX, and Madden?

is nextgen worldwide sales? i thought it was only USA, because then their numbers would make perfect sense with the post you just made. if you subtract canada from the 320000, you have around 290000.
if it is worldside, then yea, their numbers are totally wrong.
i cant see the website b/c i'm at work.
