Been having a hard time posting anything at a decent speed. And the forums are kinda slow.

Did someone take a hamster off the wheel?

It's not Saturday night. Put the hamster back.

Hmmm...we have scheduled a memory upgrade in the server in the next few days to address some of the issues. Pease let me know if you continue to see this. I have upped the numer of simultaenous connections and will be monitoring the servers. Please continue to post here if you see slowness or other issues.

Also getting "server is busy" when I hit the back button on my browser, but a quick reload always brings the page up -- never a 'server is busy' page.

This is the earliest in the day I've seen a "Server is too busy" notification yet.

Maybe I missed it, but has something changed in the past month that we've started getting these? Increased traffic? Decreased bandwith?

Ah, ok. So we are handling a bigger load.

Edit: Well, I guess/hope we won't be adding electronista/gamerscan sections to the forum then.

We have just ordered a faster/more powerful server. In the meanwhile, we just installed a reverse proxy to help cache all static content. I think that helped alot, but we'llhave to see. Anybody still seeing issues? What times?

We increased the load meter (point at which the forums display a "Server busy" message) and have re-enabled squid, the reverse proxy for caching static content. I'd be interested in others' feedback on performance after these changes.

Really? That is suprising. Well if they use Windows Server than no wonder that we're having issues

MacNN held up beautifully during 'Showtime'

I rarely see the server busy message now.

Please see my other thread regarding the new server, on which we spent almost $3K. I'm fairly sure that will handle anything we throw at it. We may also look into the squid proxy cache again, but that is what caused the login errors last weekend.

The new server is now up and running. The forums have been moved over and setup, but not yet taken live. That will be done this weekend. Following a few days of testing on the new server, we will upgrade to v3.6.1.

Hopefully that will solve the the server busy messages.

Ok, the forum server just switched over. It will take a few hours (maybe a day) for things to propogate through DNS.

You can check if you are using the new server by doing a dns lookup on forums.macnn.com. If it points to .184 (and you have restarted your browser), you are probably using the new server. If you are still pointing to .181, then your DNS has not updated yet and you are using the old server.

Here is a sample (from the command line)

mkbhatia$ nslookup forums.macnn.com
Server: 4.2.2.2
Address: 4.2.2.2#53

Non-authoritative answer:
forums.macnn.com canonical name = sm.macnn.com.
Name: sm.macnn.com
Address: 207.58.150.184

This means I'm using the new server. Please let me know if you see any issue with the new server. We are officiially in testing for a few days (before the v3.6.1 upgrade).

I haven't seen any speed increase. One of my posts took forever to go through.

Edit: this post took about 25 sec.
And yes, the new DNS has been propagated.

Dunno...

Yup, same here—slower than ever.

It now (almost) invariably takes between 15 and 30 seconds to connect to forums.macnn.com, and then it has to load (which is about the same as before).
