i have an airport express base station that connects to a dsl modem via a switch; however, the base station simply flashes amber. In the manual, it says:
"Make sure AirPort Express is connected directly to the modem via Ethernet before reconnecting power to the modem. "
is there no way to get around this? i have an imac that is also connected to the switch, so i need the switch to be there.
thanks

Your DSL ISP will probably not allow multiple leases for multiple MAC addresses be assigned out on a single circuit. Can you move the iMac behind the router?

the problem seems to be the ethernet port on the base station is not being recognized, even though the option to enable the port is on.

The ethernet cable you are using may be bad or may be the wrong type. Try another cable.
