So I saw that the new Apple store was opening today. I figured, I'd grab a bite to eat in town, take a nice stroll over to Boylston St. and scope out the new store.

I could not believe my eyes, two helicopters circling, all the local news stations parked out front and the crowds of people were unbelievable. That had to be well over a thousand people looking to get into the store.

The line spanned just about three city blocks - its crazy. I opted to skip the visit, no need to wait for hours on end only to be crushed in the store not able to see or touch anyhting. I'll pop over their another night when the excitement dies down.

and my wife thinks I belong to a cult and she thought I had I had it bad.

I wasn't willing to wait for hours to go to a store and be crushed by people - I guess I'm a light weight apple fanboy

Correction: Apple's iPods are awesome, so much so you can't blame anyone.

It's ONE of the reason why I made sure I was one of the first 25 in. Unfortunetly they didn't give any out. Oh well.
What, me worry?

And still there is a massive hole in the South with no...freakin'...Apple stores.

Not as big of a hole as the Midwest, but still. This portion of Louisiana could service a huge area of Mac users, and we have a perfect location for it, with a Boardwalk that is shoulder to shoulder all week long, every week.

I kept telling Steve to place a store here in that conference call a few hours ago, but he just won't listen. And he almost always receives my advice well. I just don't know what his deal is right now...

Where would they put the stores in the South and Midwest?

For example, I'm pretty sure an Apple Store wouldn't do that well in Williston, Bismarck, or Fargo for example. Would it do well in post-Katrina New Orleans? I did visit an Apple Store in Atlanta though, so it's not as if Apple has no representation at all in the South.

I know. It sucks. I'm GA now, but used to just visit for holidays. A few times, I had iPod or PB issues or needed a cable and basically I was just screwed for the visit. At least now other stores are in on the gig.

I don't care much for Apple stores. I used to go to the one on Regent Street (London) but something about 100s of demo iMacs lined up under florescent lighting was a bit off-putting. Not to mention, they alway always remind me of the make-up sections of department stores.

Exactly.

I've had two power cords fail on me, and I'd have to order them online every time. Trying to work for 3+ days on a backup Windows desktop PC while a new power cord ships absolutely sucks.

They need to put one in South Bend, Indiana.

Because I want one there. Good enough for me.
Being in debt and celebrating a lower deficit is like being on a diet and celebrating the fact you gained two pounds this week instead of five.

There are Apple stickers on cars all over the Shreveport/Bossier City, LA area. When I say "all over," I mean TONS.

And the closest Apple store is 3 1/2 hours away in Dallas.

Baton Rouge is farther?

EDIT: Never mind, I was thinking Slidell for some reason.

Baton Rouge is 4 1/2 hours, actually. Slidell is something like 5 1/2.

Houston is closer than Baton Rouge for me too.
