I've accidentally deleted my iPhoto library. Some pictures were backed up but not all. I downloaded and did a scan using the free version of data recover 2 and disk drill and see there are images to be recovered but I can't see a preview of them. Before I spend $100 that I don't have, would someone please let me know if you recommend either of these programs or if there is something better i should use. Also, should I have been able to see a preview? I just wish I knew if these photos are the ones I have already. I had the apple store set up time machine for me so hopefully I don't do this again.

Oh, it gets better, I emptied the trash bin several times before realizing what I had done.

Thank you so much for any help you can offer,
Catherine

No, I didn't have it set up. I now have it set up with an external hard drive. I have yearbook photos due Friday.

Where did the photos come from originally? Any chance they're still on the camera or card?

Do NOT spend money on paid file recovery applications. They are a waste of your money.

Try PhotoRec: PhotoRec - CGSecurity

It's free and lists HFS+ as a supported file system.
Sell or send me your vintage Mac things if you don't want them.
