Hi again and thanks to those of you who helped me clear up my other little problem.

This one is even more annoying ....

I have a 250 GB harddrive attached to our file server. There are 5 folders on it, of which 1 is public (shared files on our network)

The shared folders says it holds 230 GB of data ... yet, when I open it, it only reports about 40 GB.

See this picture: http://web.mac.com/peterr/iWeb/Lost_...ost_Space.html

Now where did all that space go? What's going on? I have been infected with a deadly Space-Eater from Mars? Or what?

Thanks in advance

Peter

take a look in the terminal. is it possible that someone has created a folder or file which starts with a period/full stop? if so the Finder will be hiding it.

What kind of file server? Looks like possibly an IDE limitation found on older Macs of ~ 137GB.
Taking your 96GB in use and 40GB left over, you are very close to the ATA-5 spec limit.

2^28 * 512 = 137438952960.

Well it isn't the drive limitation problem with that Mac. However, the server would not have reported the 230GB either, sorry my bad.
