I hope that this has not been brought up before but check out preview if you open a large pdf and scroll this used to spike my g4, but now - almost nothing. my jaw dropped. If apple could just implement QuartGL in iphoto....

Would it rely too much over the Mac's GPU?, cause my G4 MDD is also slow with complex pdf files under Tiger and its Radeon 9000 Pro would be Quartz Extreme capable but no way it is Core Image friendly…
It sounds like the new Preview is using QuartzGL to store the entire PDF image (or as much as possible) on the video card and composite the window there. Cool stuff.
