I suppose that given this is a Mac forum site we should. My feeling is that we've hit a wall in tech, or at least come up with most all the whiz bang ideas there most likely are going to be for a smart phone, and the future improvements will be nothing but small advances in camera/speed/ and adding nice convenient features, but nothing which will knock the socks off of anyone.

What I would find as revolutionary as Emdrive would be if Apple came out with a new phone which was slightly thicker, and significantly increased battery life. If there were a poll done and we were asked which would we choose, thinner or longer battery life I wager there would be no contest on that one.

I plan on keeping my 6S for a long time - besides just ordered the new Carl Zeiss wide angleExoLens from Apple just yesterday.

I'm mostly interested in Mac updates, considering everything is overdue, and the pro hardware is badly overdue. But Mac refreshes are not expected at this event. I'd love to be wrong though.

If the iPhone 7 is indeed waterproof as some rumors suggest, that would be interesting. A lot of people lose phones to the toilet, washing machine, etc. My sis just lost an iPhone 6s a week ago in inches of water. Too bad the unannounced 6s water resistance is not consistent.

If Apple has managed to block firmware/OS updates on a locked phone, that would be interesting too. Block the FBI scheme before it can come up again.

Hell, I lost two sets of ear pods from my old 5S and the 6S+. I'm stuck using the ear buds from my 4S.

In a sense that's what they want, no?

They want to force manufacturers to pay them a licensing fee to make Apple compatible product.

32, then a jump to 128 and 256. I have a 64GB 6S+, How is that going to work for those on an upgrade plan? I'm going to pay off mine, then do a hand me down to the wife when I move to the 7S+.

Actually $320 for when someone bumps into you and one falls out of your ear and/or you lose it, and you have to order a new set. Basically almost the same price as WATCH SERIES 2.

That price for wireless headphones is preposterous. Especially since at best the batteries will last an hour or so after a years use. At worst you'll lose one or both every three weeks.

Pleasantly surprised they waterproofed the iPhone though. Its about time but I never thought they would given how much they must make from idiots dropping their phones in bathtubs and toilets.

I can't imagine battery life on the Watch is going to be great with GPS on it. My 5S cooks when its using Maps.
I have plenty of more important things to do, if only I could bring myself to do them....

I wouldn't call them dumb. I'd simply say that they aren't appropriate for every use case. For instance I certainly wouldn't try to workout with them. That just doesn't seem wise for completely wireless earbuds because when they eventually fall out of your ear during strenuous activity they are highly likely to be lost or broken. But for lightweight earbuds in the office or at home ... or even using a single one as a handsfree headset in the car they seem pretty slick. The PowerBeats or the new BeatsX wireless seem better suited to the gym or for a run.

Told ya.

They did drop some prices. Air 2 and Mini 4 are now the same 32/128GB split as the Proa instead of the 16/64 GB split, and some of the more expensive iPads got cheaper.
The new Mac Pro has up to 30 MB of cache inside the processor itself. That's more than the HD in my first Mac. Somehow I'm still running out of space.

That should drop the prices on refurbs then, which means waiting was worth it.

They did not waterPROOF the phone.

WATCH SERIES 2 is waterPROOF to 50 meters.

iPhone 7 is water RESISTANT. Just like many sneakers and non-Gortex boots. It can handle rain and maybe a drop into a puddle, but it's not waterproof.

Don't care about headphone jack. Care more about that home button. People are saying that it is nothing like the Force Touch trackpad on Macs now.

"Water resistanced" didn't quite have the same ring to it.

Apple’s AirPods do use Bluetooth and they don’t require an iPhone 7 - Recode

I believe I read the spec was 30 minutes submerged at one meter.

Still 12MP camera? Sigh. Was hoping that the dual setup somehow combined both cameras for really high-res photos.

Looks like we finally get widescreen photos though?

Correct, that is the minimum they have to pass that if they are to be certified. The standard calls it "proof against water immersion". "Proof against splashes" is a lower level (IPX4)

I actually don't care about the loss of the 3.5mm headphone jack, but I do think it is stupid that you cannot charge your device while listening to music. I suppose that many people do this every day. I also think that the MacBook is stupid for not being able to charge it and connect a single device to it at the same time.

When I use my iPhone to listen to music or iHeart radio, I have it on the charger while the audio is going to my Bluetooth speaker. It's an Insignia with a 30 hour battery life. I'm guessing apple thinks people will buy Air Pods so they can listen to music while charging the phone. The air pods look like they aren't suited to jogging, so joggers will the standard ear pods.

Yes that is correct.
From iPhone 7 - Technical Specifications - Apple
"iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus are splash, water, and dust resistant and were tested under controlled laboratory conditions with a rating of IP67 under IEC standard 60529."
More than a splash in a puddle (interesting), but still not waterproof.

1. iPhone 7 comes with dual speakers.
2. Many listeners have a Bluetooth set somewhere.
3. There will likely be (already?) lighting adapters and docks.

Apple has sold a Lightning dock with a headphone jack for a year already, it works with all iPhones back to 5.

The thing about IP67 rating is that there is no higher rating available under that standard. There is a IP69X from a related standard that talks about "powerful water jets" but nothing that is similar to the regular "waterproof to 30 meters" from watches. I think that it is fair to say that it is waterproof to 1 meter.

I was actually referring to when people are on the go, such as when they are in the subway and charging and listening to the phones. Huge market still there.

I kind of want a Macbook. My MBA suits me fine, but that screen is atrocious (maybe not updated since 2010 and I bought mine in 2015), but not going to buy a zero port MB (that one "port" doesn't count as it is a power port). I travel a lot and being able to charge my MB as well as charging my phone through the computer is invaluable. 90% of the time I do just that and cannot do on the MB.

Meh.

Most people commute FROM somewhere where they had a chance to charge.

I don't recall EVER having to charge my iPhone WHILE wanting to listen on wired headphones.
That's in 7 years of iPhone usage.

My order has been placed. 128 GB silver iPhone 7.

Looking forward to the faster processor (my old 6 wasn't slow though), better low light camera, more RAM (perhaps the biggest thing for me).
