Personally, I like Snak. I liked it under OS 9 and it works pretty much the same under X. Here's a couple of threads with some more opinions...

On OS9 I use Ircle... I like how it's set up and how it functions... but on OSX, I go BitchX.

It is command line... and I don't know how do do DCC chats or multiple channels at the same time (among other things), but MacOSX is pretty slow sometimes on my Pismo 400 (384 RAM), so Ircle and all its windows just doesn't cut it for me.

BitchX is cool if your looking for a little time in the Terminal plus lets me keep a hand in with UNIX...

The only thing about it is that the ascii banner at the beginning is severely broken in the OS X Terminal program

Other than that it works like a dream

One of the posted links probably goes to a thread I started. I tried Snak but you have to buy after some time or get cut off after 30 mins, which sucks.

So now I'm using AthenaIRC. It rocks and I couldn't happier.
