Until now, I've been doing quite well with an Eclipse Computer Light that does a wonderful job of indirectly illuminating my CRT monitor. Unfortnately, I no longer have room in my computer armoire for that light since my lovely new HP LaserJet 1160 moved into the space above the monitor.
I'd love to find something similar to my Eclipse light but which can fit in the narrow space above my monitor. I have no more than 2.1" of vertical clearance (although there's lots of horizontal space). Any suggestions? Thanks.

can you post a picture of your former setup so I can envision what you want?

Sure.
BEFORE (Eclipse Computer Light occupies cubby above monitor.)
AFTER (HP LaserJet 1160 occupies cubby above monitor, making use of Eclipse Light impractical because I need to have access to the paper tray, etc.)

What exactly are you wanting to illuminate? Are you just trying to create some bias lighting to reduce the glare of the CRT?
Personally, I would fashion a LED light system, or find an LED light bar.

What's bias lighting? What's an LED light bar? Can you show me a picture? There's no glare right now because there's no lighting at present --- that's the problem!

Bias Lighting is used often in home theater setups to reduce eye strain and help improve color perception. If you have a dark workstation, I'm sure it could be used there as well.
LED lighting could be used for this. LED lighting would also me good to use because as no heat output, focused light and very low power consumption.
You can get LED light bars and other LED products here.
