A few months back I bought a Mini for my mum with the standard 256 Meg of RAM. I went round last week and realised it's close to un-usably slow, so I guessed a RAM upgrade would cure this. I went to the local Apple store and asked about them upgrading the ram to 1GB (as looking on the Net upgrading the Duo Minis isn't the simplest job in the world). The Apple store wanted about £150 to do the upgrade, Which As Crucial price the RAM at £51.99 inc vat. seams a bit steep.
Are there any other people I could send/take the Mini to which charge a more realistic price.

The crucial price is fair, and you get quality stuff.

is that £150 inc the price of the RAM and fitting? if it is it sounds about right. most dealers would change at least £60 to fit and then add the price of the RAM on top.

GBM might be cheaper, but i doubt it. GBM Digital Technologies Ltd GBM Digital Technologies Ltd

Shame you're not near London, I could of recommended someone cheaper.

Personally, I would just install it yourself - it isn't that hard.

It would void the warranty though, wouldn't it?

Nope. If you do not damage anything, your warranty is not voided. RAM is a user replaceable part. OWC and ifixit.com have guides on how to disassemble them to replace the RAM.

Hmmm, has this now changed for the Intel Mac minis?

Anyway, here's the page where you can download a video guide from OWC: Tech Center at OtherWorldComputing.com

Be careful opening the lid, i managed to really mess up my mini and the lid never fit back on properly. Take care and the RAM is fairly easy to upgrade on here also. As mentioned earlier, it's user replaceable so it will not void your warranty.

I just did a 2gb upgrade on my 1.66 mini. It is like a new computer. The how to video makes it easy, put it on your ipod for reference. Crucial has 2gb for $199.99. The ram I got was Samsung.
