I just signed onto my account and went to look at how much space my email was taking up when i noticed I now have 250 mb of storage. I can allocate that between email and iDisk in any manner i choose via a drop down menu. I guess this is why .Mac has been offline. No mention of the enhancement on the .Mac page as of yet. Its about time they did something like this. I was tired of the low email space I had.

Been waiting for this. Let's see all the naysayers now. Attachments bumped up to 10MB, which is nice. And other features. I would have renewed (coming on Oct 1) at full price but I got this year's .mac renewal for US$5 (got it half price from a pc dude who won it in a lucky draw, then get a further discount from buying my PB17 last month.

On the .mac page it says 125MB for email and 125MB for iDisk. That's hardly much of a storage increase for the iDisk, but it's a huge mail improvement. dotmac.info says you can adjust the amount of storage for each feature though. If that's true the .mac page is a bit misleading.

To change the ratio of e-mail to iDisk storage space, go to your Account settings at www.mac.com and click the Storage Settings button. You can then alter the ratio to something that better suits your usage of both (e.g. I have very little in the way of e-mail stored so I set the ratio to 50MB for e-mail and 200MB for the iDisk).

What a coincidence: I was just looking over my iDisk this morning seeing if I needed to clear out some old photo albums I posted to my iDisk from iPhoto. And, I was tired of getting those "your mac.com mail is nearing its storage limit" messages. I am not sure I get my $100 out of .Mac, but I probably get at least $74.38.

I was on the fence about renewing (up in two weeks) but now that i have the extra space it is worth it for me. the one thing that sis scare me is the "extra" $50 they are willing to charge you for 1gb of storage. I would love to have that but I think I know someone who has an extra invitation to Gmail. Care less about their email but could use the storage for important backups.

I was going to renew anyways, but it's good to see that Apple remains committed to the .mac services they offer and they aren't just letting them die on the tree. I would imagine it's a profitable enterprise for them.

This is awesome! I had purchased extra e-mail storage last year (25MB) and this upgrade came along at the right time. I was considering dumping a bunch of e-mail just to be able to ditch the extra mail charge, but with the new improvements I'm free of the extra charge and now I can assign myself some extra mail space.

Does anyone think .mac will ever have something where we can assign our own domain names to the homepage aspect of .mac?

I've been waiting and hoping for a feature like that but didn't want to ditch .mac or get another webhosting solution at the same time.

So I see how to adjust the ratio of iDisk to Mail storage from the .Mac site, but how does that update to my local iDisk? I have it set up to automatically sync, and it's still synching, and not currently giving the "Your iDisk size does not match" error. But the local iDisk is still reporting the old size even though the .Mac system preference panel shows the correct size. I can't log out right now as I'm working on some stuff, but would that do it?

You have to turn off the local iDisk and turn it back on to see the changes.

2. what is the size of her email, it cant be included in the 250 can it?

1.) Yes, it will be.

2.) It's not part of your 250MB and Apple upped the storage from the "extra e-mail only" account from 10MB to 50MB today as well.

Also, this is a timely update, as I was beginning to worry about the amout of email space I had remaining. I had 8 megs of email in a little over a year, and I didn't like going over the halfway mark.

By the way, I know that isn't as much email as most people get, but I generally hate email with a passion.

No, this changed when they upped the storage to 250 MB.

I presume because dynamically changing the space would wreak havoc with mirrored iDisk volumes on people's desktops.

As it is, I'm having trouble getting my new, improved 1009MB iDisk mirrored correctly (either never shows up during syncing, or it mounts as a 100MB disk, then balks because there's more than 100MB of data stored online). And this is after unmounting and trashing my 'old' iDisk, logging out, restarting, etc. Its not happy (unless access is via WebDAV only and not mirrored locally).
