FWIW, iWrite is still here, by the name of Cody Dawg.

From Athens' tone, I don't think that either college or seminary attendance are the answer. And since Athens didn't say what his reasons were, it's probable that he wants to keep them private.

Athens, I hope that whatever your reasons for leaving, you are successful and stay safe.
obviously you've been around longer than I, but truth be told I've never seen you!

Perhaps I haven't been here long enough, but I don't remember the "fat chick who delivered pizza." As for the others you mentioned, all of them, in some form or another, came back at some point, even MikeM.
That was my guess.

Oooh the suspense, I can't wait to find out who is going to be the next MacNNer to commit suicide. Suicide, as far as I can tell, is quite common amongst people on internet forums.

Fat chick = PorscheBunny

And she had a different name before or after that. She was one of the first to retire a nick when hitting a thousand posts. Although that was back in my lurking days, sometime in 2000 or early 2001.

I had to leave one time to go to Fort Worth.

Being adventurous, I got on my parents computer and pointed the browser to Macnn Forums.

Apparently they have macnn forums there too. I was shocked. So in essence it was like the forums came to me...in a different place.

It was like I'd never left at all.

No, it's not Simey.

Though Simey is probably one of those who was notified by this person that he's leaving.

It's probably one of the conservative members, since he seems to have PM'ed the other conservative members here, someone like crashharddrive.

But does it really matter anyway? There are thousands of members and they come and go all the time. A lot of the older members have left in any case because the place got on their nerves.

I could see a long-time poster saying they were moving on or circumstances meant they wouldn't be around much or whatever. But someone with only a thousand posts or so creating a thread just to say they aren't going to post anymore?

I like funny threads like this one. Kind of an intarweb junior high school thing. This viral marketing method of leaving is a bit long-in-the-tooth though. Surely someone can come up a more cutting-edge way of "retiring".

I regret to inform you...
That I will not be leaving the MacNN community with this not being my last post. I have fun here, and I would love to stick around and debate more and due to personal reasons and circumstances I will be able to. Hope every one takes care, friends and foes. I might grandly announce my retirement in the future. I just dont know yet. Hello every one.

Seriously though ... Vice President (Al Gore) is to President (Bill Clinton) as Vice President (Dick) is to President (GW).

I know these types of tests are quite uncommon in Europe - at least in those countries I went to school in. So I assume that'd be same in Denmark. I had never heard of these weirdo questions before I got to the US, either.

I think most of us guessed correctly that it's a conservative member for that very reason.

Speaking of old members leaving, I thought you were one of those who had quit the lounge. Looks like I was wrong here too.

Oh, and I'm done guessing for now

There is this atheist swimming in the ocean. All of the sudden he sees this shark in the water, so he starts swimming towards his boat.

As he looks back he sees the shark turn and head towards him. His boat is a ways off and he starts swimming like crazy. He's scared to death, and as he turns to see the jaws of the great white beast open revealing its teeth in a horrific splendor, the atheist screams, "Oh God! Save me!"

In an instant time is frozen and a bright light shines down from above. The man is motionless in the water when he hears the voice of God say, "You are an atheist. Why do you call upon me when you do not believe in me?"

Aghast with confusion and knowing he can't lie the man replies, "Well, that's true I don't believe in you, but how about the shark? Can you make the shark believe in you?"

The Lord replies, "As you wish," and the light retracted back into the heavens and the man could feel the water begin to move once again.

As the atheist looks back he can see the jaws of the shark start to close down on him, when all of sudden the shark stops and pulls back.

Shocked, the man looks at the shark as the huge beast closes its eyes and bows its head and says, "Thank you Lord for this food for which I am about to receive..."

- a random shark joke found using google.

You forgot Kilbey. He announced his departure some time ago to spend more time with his wife/baby, and then came back because of Ca$h or some reason.

I'll will never understand why some start a thread that they are leaving.
