While sorting some old boxes, I found a mimeographed (sp?) brainteaser my mother gave me when I was in high-school 20 years ago. Of the 34 riddles, I've deduced 29. I was hoping that y'all could fill in the blanks.

I found it online (thank God I didn't need to type it).

Here's how it goes:

This is a test to gauge your mental flexibility and creativity. In the 3
years it has been developed, it has been found that few people could solve more than half on the first day. May reported getting answers long after the test had been set aside, at unexpected moments when their minds were relaxed and some reported solving it over a period of several days.
(ed. yeah, whatever)

Example: 16=O in a P Answer: 16 ounces in a pound

The ones in RED have been solved--look on down. As of 1:45 a.m. EST, all have been. Shazaam!

1. 26 = L of the A
2. 7 = D of the W
3. 1001 = A N
4. 12 = S of the Z
5. 54 = C in a D (with J)
6. 9 = P in the S S
7. 88 = P K
8. 13 = S on the A F
9. 32 = D F at which W F
10. 18 = H on a G C
11. 90 = D in R A
12. 200 = D for P G in M
13. 8 = S on a S S
14. 3 = B M (S H T R)
15. 4 = Q in a G
16. 24 = H in a D
17. 1 = W on a D
18. 5 = D in a Z C
19. 57 = H V
20. 11 = P on a F B T
21. 1000 W that a P is W
22. 29 = D in F in a L Y
23. 64 = S on a C B
]24. 40 = D and N of the G F
25. 76 = T in the B P
26. 50 = W to L Y L
27. 99 = B of B on the W
28. 60 = S in a M
29. 1 = H on a U
30. 9 = J on the S C
31. 7 = B for S B
32. 21 = D on a D
33. 7 = W of the A W
34. 15 = M on a D M C

I won't mention which ones have stumped me. I believe the answers are online, but I hope that no one travels that route (obviously, I can't stop anyone, though).

If anyone cares to add to this, feel free (since the examples are at least 20 years old).
--------

I'll begin: #33, 7=W of the A W is Seven wonders of the ancient world.

Yikes, I watch a hockey game powerplay, and all hell breaks loose.

What's remaining:

12. 200 = D for P G in M
13. 8 = S on a S S
14. 3 = B M (S H T R)
17. 1 = W on a D
23. 64 = S on a C B
32. 21 = D on a D

Numbers 11 and 29 were ones that I hadn't guessed, thanks.

(edit: removed a couple I missed)

G4ME,

Eight days a week in the Beatles song.

That one was on my original test, but it didn't make it to the online version for some reason.

All depictions I've seen have either two or four wings on a dragon.

I'm beginning to think this is either a typo or a dirty trick played by a teacher to keep her students stumped, so that they know that they don't know it all.

bewebste,

1000 S in your P
1000 songs in your pocket--that's a good one!

Everyone got the answers correct, last night (AFAIK).

For easy copy and paste-ability (in case anyone wants to give the test to friends/enemies/relatives/that know-it-all cousin who annoys you at family reunions--whoops, let that slip), here're the answers in numerical order:

1. 26 Letters of the Alphabet
2. 7 Days of the Week
3. 1001 Arabian Nights
4. 12 Signs of the Zodiac
5. 54 Cards in a Deck (with a joker)
6. 9 Planets in the Solar System
7. 88 Piano Keys
8. 13 Stripes on the American Flag
9. 32 Degrees Farenheit at which Water Freezes
10. 18 holes on a golf course
11. 90 Degrees in a right angle
12. 200 Dollars for Passing Go in Monopoly
13. 8 sides on a stop sign
14. 3 Blind Mice..."See how they run..."
15. 4 Quarts in a Gallon (metrics be damned)
16. 24 Hours in a Day
17. 1 Washington on a dollar (enter your non-American currency here)
18. 5 Digits in a Zip Code
19. 57 Heinz Varieties
20. 11 Players on a Football Team
21. 1000 Words that a Picture is Worth
22. 29 Days in February in a Leap Year
23. 64 Squares on a Chess (or checker) Board
24. 40 Days and Nights of the Great Flood
25. 76 Trombones in the Big Parade
26. 50 Ways to Leave Your Lover
27. 99 Bottles of Beer on the Wall
28. 60 Seconds in a Minute
29. 1 horn on a unicorn
30. 9 Judges on the Supreme Court
31. 7 Brides for Seven Brothers
32. 21 Dots on a Die
33. 7 Wonders of the Ancient World.
34. 15 Men on a Dead Man's Chest (yo-ho-ho and a bottle of rum)

--------

Again thanks a lot for the help. Every few years I would stumble on this teaser (in a drawer or wherever), and pause (actually dwell..actually obsess) to figure the ones I didn't know.

The benefits of the hive mind.
I am stupidest when I try to be funny.
