How to generate fonts in OS X?

My girlfriend is designing a font as part of her Master's thesis, and she purchased Macromedia's Fontographer for final output (if that's the correct term).

Anyway, the box has the old, old school Macromedia logo, and I don't think the software's been updated since the turn of the century (heh, heh).

Is there an OS X native program that does what Fontographer does? I realize it's not as pressing as Quark for X, but I'm just curious.

Fontlab looks promising...

Haven't tried it but it looks like the only font generator for OS X right now...
