I have a dmg here called (example) software1.1. When I burn it is still called software1.1 but I need the name changed because the installer borks otherwise. I tried manually changing the name but couldn't, I tried changing the dmg name and it didn't work. I tried creating a new disk image with the right name, nada. Very picky.

There is anyway to change the (I guess) low level label of this cd?

It should just burn with the name of the mounted image. So mount the disk image as read-write, rename it, and unmount it. When you burn that, it should have the correct name.

Then create a new image, name it what you want, copy the files to it, and then throw away the original image.

Tried that. When I burn the new new image the name "reverts" back to the old, wrong one.

I am simply suggesting that you create a new blank image (not a duplicate) with the name you want. Then copy the files onto it. It would be like copying files from one disk drive to another.
