The other day I was ripping some songs from a CD, while I was listening to various songs from the same CD. OK, so the laser reads from one part of the disc while ripping, and does it jump back and forth to the other tracks that I'm listening to? Does it read ahead and put it into buffer memory? This has really got me thinking.

Thanks. Just curious, but how much buffer memory does my computer have? I have an iMac DV (blueberry). Does it use system RAM? Is there memory built into the CD-ROM drive? Is this the same idea of how CD-Burners work? Thanks again FixItAll Now.

The drives have a buffer, AND the application playing the thing can have a buffer too.
