Hi,

I have the Mac Pro described in my sig, and every single disc I burn fails verfication completely, and the discs are ruined. It doesn't matter if it's a DVD or CD, or whether it's burning quickly or slowly. It doesn't matter what quality of media I use (I've used everything from FujiFilm (one of the best) to GQ (one of the worst.)) I've burned at least 8 DVDs/CDs with no luck on ANY of them.

I'm pretty sure I managed to burn at least one DVD/CD on this computer before this issue arose. Problem is, I'm not 100% sure. Honestly, it could have been a dream.

This thing is driving me mad. What could be the issue here? I really, really don't want to send in my 3-week old Mac Pro in for repair.

Running 10.4.8, using a:

SONY DVD RW DW-D150A:

Firmware Revision: 1.MD
Interconnect: ATAPI
Burn Support: Yes (Apple Shipped/Supported)
Cache: 2048 KB
Reads DVD: Yes
CD-Write: -R, -RW
DVD-Write: -R, -RW, +R, +RW, +R DL
Burn Underrun Protection CD: Yes
Burn Underrun Protection DVD: Yes
Write Strategies: CD-TAO, CD-SAO, CD-Raw, DVD-DAO

Any help/suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Perhaps the drive needs cleaning. If it ain't that, take it in.

if you're not sure if it's never been able to burn a disc it sounds like the drive it DOA.

by the sounds of it you don't want to lose you Mac to the repair shop. if that's the case i would buy another DVD burner and install that in the second slot and see if that works. I know it's not ideal but generally the cost lost to a business in down time would be nowhere near the cost of a DVD burner.

Scratch that, I've burned at *least* 4 discs successfully with Disk Utility, and I know that for a fact.

I was under the impression that for desktops, apple sends out someone to repair the hardware. I would call apple and find out what they can do for you. You are still under warranty, might as well take advantage of it.

Well, I called Apple this morning and it seems that there were some preferences that were screwing around with my ability to properly burn CDs and DVDs. I did some troubleshooting and I'm all good!

Thanks for all the suggestions though.
