Apple wants 1%. A lot of people say this phone doesn't even cater to 1% of the market. So, the question for MacNN forum members is: Will you buy the Apple iPhone before any revisions? (i.e. when it comes out in your market).

My T-Mobile contract is expiring sometime next year. When it expires I'll buy whatever iPhone is currently for sale, if it's the revision A, then yes, I'll buy the revision A.

Dunno yet. Depends if I can afford it at that time. Sure like it, but I'm not sure if I really need it.

Against my better judgement, I'm leaning towards "yes."

If they offer software/OS upgrades that will seal the deal for me.

You know I probably will. Or I'll get it as soon as I can. I'm not sure if I'll be able to afford one in June but around then I'll need to start considering getting a cell phone, in which case I'll want this one and not any others. So I'll refuse to get anything else. Not to mention the rents will probably wanna get me some sort of grad gift so they might get me that. Or at least some money for it.

I guess I'm not with it, but I like my phone to just be a phone. I don't have a camera, web enabled, mp3 playing phone and can't say that I really want one. However, I think Apple is on the right track to selling a crap load of these things. Apple, by it's inovativeness, creates a demand for things where none existed before.

Well one thing good about the price is maybe it will get some people to use their phones a bit longer. It's ridiculous how some people go through phones like candy. A good phone should last easily 5-6 years. Some of these kids are spending $2-300 per year on just their cell phones not including the monthly bill and accessories and it just doesn't make any sense to me.

I have never had, nor do I particularly want, to spend extra monthly bucks for a cell phone. I'm either at my office which has a phone, or at home which has a phone, or if I'm away from those places, I don't want to be bothered by phone calls. I'd much prefer to have an iPod with the same interface but no phone or internet.

But if cingular is in my area, I'll probably get one in early 2008. They're just too damned cool.

it would be cool to replace my aging handspring and my aging ipod with something else. My phone isn't that aging, but I'm not overly thrilled with it either way. It has a camera that is a) not that great and b) verizon crippled it so the only way to get pictures from my phone to my Mac is to email them to myself at .25/pop. It would also be nice to have a candybar phone again.

I'm in the wait and see camp. Nothing I have is broken, so i don't NEED anything new, but... lookit all the pretty.

I'm not sure. Already have a family plan on T iMobile.
But my company wants me to get a pda, so I'd like to see what kind of plans Cingular will offer and maybe combine the two.

I am the type of person who is usually very cautious when it comes to new products, especially from Apple. I always want one, but always hold out for Rev 2 or later. But this is different for me. This is something I've been waiting for for years. I've been holding on to my horrible phone as long as I possibly can waiting for Apple to introduce this. And it blew my expectations out of the water.

I am fully aware that a year after I get one there will be better, less expensive ones out there. But I am fully willing to deal with that, and experience the pure joy of this thing in the mean time.

I'm gettin one. No doubt. That is, unless between now and June some catastrophic piece of news comes out about it that is a deal breaker for me. But I don't see that happening.

God, why can't I just do what Cartman did when he couldn't wait for the Wii to come out and freeze myself until June?

Ohhh.

Well, I don't need the iPod part, thats for sure, and I could care less about the internet and email, too. Don't know what kind of premium Apple would charge for that.

I will probably wait till the end of my current contract with Sprint, unless I get to fondle one and fall in lust. Rev A phones from ANYBODY have always been problematic, so I will wait till a few bugs get sorted.

OK well that doesn't leave anything left that you can't get now from a competitor.

Seriously, if you don't need the iPod/internet/email part it is already pointless as why do you need such a large screen otherwise.

Never buy a version A product from Apple. They all ways have problems and by version B or C Apple has gotten it right.

All things said I still want one.

Ok, fine, the stuff you just said takes out the most popular feature being the iPod and removing software will not save you $200 or change the size.

Not gonna happen.

Actually the widescreen ipod is the feature most people want separate from the damn phone.

I already started a 2 year Cingular contract last summer, so i guess I'll have to wait without paying some exorbitant price for it. Luckily by then there will either be another version of the iphone (ie. mini/nano) or at least a revised edition with the bugs worked out.

Nope. Too expensive. The VAT and the Apple-Europe Tax™ will jack up that price even more. Plus subsidized phones are illegal in Belgium so that won't help either.

I wouldn't mind shelling out for the hardware, but I'm sure that the data plan will be a killer - I'm not willing to spend close to $100 a month for my phone.

One thing this phone offers over every other smartphone is it's compatible with devices made for the iPod.

I hope.

Won't be getting one 'til the price drops. Unless I can get one on the cheap with a new contract. Rev. A has nothing to do with it.

A most extraordinary device if it works as advertised, but I'm afraid a little too rich for my blood. I cannot justify $500 or $600 for a phone/iPod/Internet device. It'd also be nice to have more PDA functionality, but I think that's coming soon. And I'd prefer not to be locked into one provider. Of course, this exclusivity should expire in two to five years, I expect.

When price goes down or money becomes abundant for me, I'll surely give it a try.

I would want a wide-screen, multi-touch OS iPod with the cellphone capabilities of something like the Motofone. Look and operate like the iPhone, loose all the high-bandwidth features. And, scrap the rotation sensing mechanism (how does the iPhone know which orientation to use if it's on a level surface?)

I realize that Apple needs to goes through pro/early-adopter versions to get to a people's iPhone. I'm willing to wait. I have no troubles lugging around my nano and razr in the meantime.

I want one, for the coolness factor, but wouldn't even consider it if I weren't already a Cingular customer. It sucks I'll have to keep my L2 for overseas travel (Africa, where Cingular don't roam).

I said it in another thread, but I'm going to wait for more storage space before I plop down that much money. And hopefully it won't be as much by that time (fat chance)...
