Nvidia is finally going to offer its
Grid cloud-based gaming service to customers later this month.
Nvidia Grid will allow gamers to stream a selection of PC games from its servers over the Internet, similar to
PlayStation Now and
OnLive, though the GPU producer will only allow owners of the
Shield Tablet access initially, before a wider launch of the service to other devices.
Users will be able to select from a list of
20 games from within the Shield Hub app, with the list including
Dirt 2,
Batman: Arkham City,
Borderlands 2, and
Darksiders 2, though more will apparently be added in the coming weeks. Pricing for the service was not announced, but the US preview will be free for Shield owners until June 30th, 2015, and will also be available in Western Europe in the future.
At the same time, Nvidia has
revealed it will upgrade the Shield Tablet to Android Lollipop on November 18th. The
previously-teased update to version 5.0 of the mobile operating system will introduce the Material Design interface, improved app performance, and changes to both the Dabbler software and Shield Hub. An upcoming bundle is also teased, with Valve Software's
Portal,
Half-Life 2, and
Half-Life 2: Episode One included in a "Green Box" pack free with the 32GB LTE model of the Shield Tablet.
