What's the best way to save a quicktime or mpeg file that doesn't have a .mov or .mpg link? For example, on the apple movie trailers section, it seems that the only way to view the trailers is to watch them in the web browser window. You can't download them to the hard disk.
Thanks.

Upgrade to quicktime pro, but some of the movie clips are setup to not allow saving.

Or, immediately after watching the clip, do a search for "recently modified" on your hard drive -- basically just go through your Internet cache files. You should see what you're looking for there. You may have to fiddle around a bit with the file type, but you can often salvage clips this way.

I tried searching the "recently modified" files, but all i could find was a browser cache file that wouldn't open. Does it matter what browser you use? I'm running IE 5.1 or OSX.

Shouldn't do. Try setting up QT preferences to save movies in disk cache. Obviously, if you're watching, say, a movie trailer via your browser, keep an eye out for large cache files. Don't shut down your browser while you're looking. And bear in mind this won't work for every file.
