I was wondering if anyone has bought an iPod and found themselves not using it for whatever reason.

The reason why I ask is because Maury McCown over at RAILhead Design is selling his iPod because he never uses it.

I desperately want an iPod but I can't afford one. So I want to know who buys an iPod and then never uses it.

What I don't understand is, why would you fork over that much money not to use it. More money than brains?

I can also see myself using it less around the house. I used to plug the iPod into the home stereo all the time but now with Tivo's home media software, I'm getting all the stuff that was on my iPod without the hassle of hooking it up.

But I still use it daily during the commute to work and during the work day...

I use my iPod, but I don't use the Remote and Earphones I paid $35 bucks for. It looks too geeky to have all that stuff on.

I'm using mine right now! Actually I use it mostly around the house, since I don't want to disturb others, but also it comes in very handy when cooking or washing dishes, etc. I listen to a lot of music, but also audio books and old radio shows. I love the iPod... <sniff>

I ordered my the day they were available. I used to use mine everywhere. Mostly at work though. Of course that was until I dropped it.

Am I to assume nothing good came of said dropping? Bummer.

Actually, I've dropped mine a few times. It flew off the elliptical runner, and it's been dropped onto asphalt in the parking lot, and it gets thrown around my car when I forget it's there and take a turn too fast. Keeps on tickin'

I used mine a lot when walking back and forth to class when I was in school. After graduating I didn't use it as much, until I got a Dr. Bott car adaptor. Now it's in there all the time.

Something happened with the HD. Copying files or uploading from iTunes, once it hits the 2GB mark it craps out.

I sold mine a couple of months ago because I wanted to listen to continuous mix music and the mp3 format adds about 0.2 seconds gap to the beginning and end of each track. I only ripped about half my collection for this reason.

If they added ogg vorbis support (there's a petition in the discussions at apple.com) then I'd buy again. I'm sure there are plenty of people who couldn't care less but I prefer a continuous mix to be exactly like the CD.

The iPod is still the best player out there but it has so much more potential.

I've got an original 5GB that I hardly have used the past six months because I have not been at work. Once I go back, i'll use it with my iRock or iTrip daily.

I got an iPod to use as an mp3 jukebox for long daily commutes and road trips in my car. Well, things change. Now that my daily commute is only 10 minutes and now that I usually just hop on a plane instead of embarking on road trips, my iPod collects dust. It's not even worth it bringing the iPod for my short commute and on a plane, my powerbook plays iTunes. The iPod is still a cool little gadget but I only use it for occasional jogs and when I work out if I even remember to bring it. And when there's snow on the ground, it just sits on my shelf. Makes a nice paper weight.

I personally don't see this as a big deal (certainly nothing to sell the iPod over). In my opinion, the real appeal of the ipod is not that you can bring a lot of "CDs" with you, but that you can bring a lot of songs with you. By this I mean that I don't really see a necessity to listen to the songs in the order they were in on the original CD. I'd much rather do a mix that matches my own mood or whatever. That, combined with the fact that most songs have natural gaps between them anyway, makes this a relatively small problem in my opinion. It is true that the gaps between songs can be annoying for things recorded live, though.

I used to use my iPod on a daily basis, mostly on my commute to and from work (~.75-1.25 hrs one way). For the last few weeks I haven't been using it, because I just bought a new car (a Subaru Outback) and it doesn't have a cassette player.

When the iTrip comes out, I hope to start using it again on a daily basis (provided my brother gives it back to me!).
