I don't know if this is an OS X issue or hardware issue but it seems to be related to browsers so I'll put it here with Apps.

Lately when I'm running Safari or Firefox there are times when the hard drive is just accessed continually! The browser is frozen but still not red in Force Quit and I can do a normal quit without force quit anyway. Finder and other programs seem fine while this is happening. I've restarted the browsers, rebooted OS X, shutdown and rebooted, cleared the browser cache and don't know what the problem is. The drive seems fine since everything else works. I've got about 50% of the 200 GB drive free.
