Good morning/afternoon, everyone.
I made my first flash movie last night, and I have been feverishly trying to figure out how I can display it in the forum or use it in my sig. Does anyone know how this can be done?

although I"m no expert, I'm reasonably sure that's against sig guidelines.

ABSOLUTELY NOT. People have been breaking the sig guidelines way too much recently, (ahem, L'enfanTerrible), and flash would just be way too much.
Get your current sig within guidelines before you start asking about breaking them.

animation is, sure Lerk. however, regardless of that, you have to embed a .swf into a html page, you can't just throw a quick link in, like a .gif, or .jpg
example:
<object classid="clsid:D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000" codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=6,0,29,0" width="160" height="310">
<param name="movie" value="flash/menu.swf">
<param name="quality" value="high">
<param name="bgcolor" value="#000000">
<embed src="flash/menu.swf" width="160" height="310" quality="high" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" bgcolor="#000000"embed>
</object>
therefore, you'd need html turned on for it to work, and i don't know many board admin that would be so daft as to do that
just make a quick page and post the link, if you want people to see it

Oh lord. Please, no flash sigs! Everyone's sig in this thread so far is technically over the limits.... No animated threads on MacNN! For the love of pancakes, no animated threads.
Have to go -- Bush is on TV.

the animation is nice.
animations are still forbidden.
flash isn't allowed either.
and i don't much like hippos.
so if you had a flash animation with a hippo, that'd really get my goat. and i like my goat.
{time to bump the sig guidelines thread}

Its not impossible to add the ability
http://www.were-here.com has them
Though I think they can get annoying and mb even memory hogs if everyone uses em.

I can't stand flash, and boycott it completely. It's terrible.
I'm sure your animation is cool, but it's against everything I believe in to check it...

It's so convolute... when on the net, I don't want to have to:
1. wait for the plugin to load
2. wait for the movie to load
3. watch a progress bar in the meantime
4. wait for links to appear in silly animated fashion
5. wait for the page to gradually be remade in front of my eyes
6. tolerate mouseover animation while searching the links for what I'm after
7. have to listen to cheap sound effects while doing so
8. have to deal with something as convolute as most flash pages are.
Of course, that's the worst of the worst - where a whole site is flash based. For an animation, it still sucks - why? Because a gif is just as good for simple animation, if not better.
I don't see the fascination. If I go to a webpage, I want to get the information I wanted, and get out of there, quickly.
MOST flash things are the epitomy of bad design.
However, I will concede: when flash is done well, it can be incredible - the ONLY example of this I've ever seen is the webpage for the Sydney Opera House. Incredible.
