Hey, can you guys suggest some synonyms to the word "subculture?" The thesaurus doesn't have any suggestions. Thanks.

It's not really a word that lends itself to synonyms. "Movement" is the closest thing I can recommend, but it doesn't have exactly the same connotation. Of course, depending on what the subculture is, "counterculture" could work.

The thesaurus doesn't have any suggestions because subculture is a very specific word that means a very specific thing.

My bleary eyes read the title as "Need Some Symptoms", which perhaps suggested that MallyMal was calling in "sick" and needed a plausible malady.

If you are talking about a specific subculture, I'd simply give it a name and call it by name later on. If the particular subculture is defined by its stance against something, you could use that: an example which doesn't fit your context is `anti-abortion' (instead of pro-life). Or you could emphasize the `for something' by calling it pro-choice.
Otherwise, I think we need a little more info to put it into context. What is the text you want to write about?

I'm looking for words that kinda encompass subcultures in general. Like "movement" (thanks Lavar) or "deviant/deviation." Something really general.

Camp, faction, group, section, wing, arm, branch, set.
At the least, I think "set" is good.
