New feature: DVD player De-interlaces Interlaced video automatically now .

I noticed this while watching one of my Monty Python DVDs, it may have been in older builds too, though I never saw it mentioned.

I got 3 questions for people who have it:

1) in other applications like utilities and such, do they have the new Lock-Unlock on there yet(like in Sys Prefs)? In 7B39 it was still the old lock button...

2) Do zipped Archives have new icons yet?

3) In the Dock, when an application is hidden, and u control click on a hidden app, does the menu still say "Hide" or does it say "Show" for a already hidden app?

I heard there was an adjustment to the System Prefs icon (Apple logo inset?) True?

Also, did you have any problems with FileVault when upgrading (as the new one is not compatible with previous builds)?

It sure is about time.

There's also a ton of DVDs that have a hard time being read by DVD Player 4.0 in Panther...it used to be the case in DVD Player 3.x but you'd think this would be resolved in 4.0. vlc handles them fine. What's up Apple?

I'm not sure if this is mentioned anywhere but If you have Jag and Panther on the same disk and in different partitions on that disk.. Jag keeps trying to use the newer (unrunnable) text editor, preview, etc by default because they have higher version numbers.

how do developers handle that? it's a pain in the @ss.

I am about to do exactly this. Anyone know of a workaround? Otherwise I will have to just install panther and leave jag out for a bit.

Thanks

Just saw the screenshots of the sheets, very cool i think... form over function doesnt really impress me much but eye candy is a nice distraction from the tedium of actual work. Just one question, how do the sheets look when they're fully deployed... are they still attached to the window? or do they float on top of the window?

another thing i noticed that im pretty sure isnt in jag or older panther builds, shadows are now rendered real time beneath/with the sheets and not rendered immediately after the sheet is deployed like it currently is in jag.

Looking at that screenshot would make it appear so.

I never noticed that the shadow didn't render in realtime until I read this. I had to check a few times though, cause they are damn fast in Panther.

I was stating it, by the looks of ur screenshot shadows are rendered as the sheet comes down, with jag the shadow isnt visible until the sheet is fully deployed and then dissapears just prior to the sheet disappearing.

So how do they look when they're fully deployed? attached? floating? by the angle they fold out at it almost looks like they are set to float on top of the parent window, however it could be like a garage door and still remain attached after the impressive (albeit needless) animation has completed.

Could someone try applying a theme with squared corners (or modify the titlebar) and post a screenshot of that? The reason is that I'm curious if the window shadow will adept itself or not. In previous builds it does not adept, and that is a bit of problem for themes.

Hi,

Are the stripes a little less obvious in this build compared to the others?
Any chance of a screengrab of sysprefs, or some other aqua app?

Thanks

I just found a feature in B44, not sure if it was in earlier builds but it's pretty awesome.

You can now set your own key combos for certain Menu items in both specific apps and system wide. So say you want command-option-1 to open the iChat About panel, all possible. Cool

That is awesome, shadows and everything. Does anyone know if this works on non-QE hardware? And can you turn it off if its too slow?

It works on non-QE hardware and you won't complain that it's too slow. Just that you only see three frames or so of the animation. Not sure if it's my iBook or not, but it actually feels too fast now

You only have to burn the first CD, the second and third CD's you can just mount after Panther is finished being set up, and just install them off the image.

Can you slow it down by holding shift? If not, you should be able to.

so are they going to update the menu bar to match the new title bars in panther -- e.g. loose the stripes and flatten & sink the apple?

To eliminate most of the launch problems due to having different versions of apps on different boot partitions on the same HD, delete-

com.apple.LaunchServices.LocalCache.csstore

from the /Library/Caches and from ~/Library/Caches of both boot partitions. Restart.

This addresses issues originating with having Jaguar on one partition and some other version of 10.x on another.

The menu bar has the same design as an inactive window - it has been that way since WWDC.
